Default Predator u7194 Question?

If I buy a used Predator U7194 can I "register" it? Is registration required to access updates / downloads? (all of this assuming it is "unlocked" or "unmarried" from the previous vehicle) What about tech support? Any help from Diablo or would I be limited to help here and on the predator fourm?
Just trying to understand
Thanks . . .

you don't need to register it... won't matter, since you didn't buy it brand new, so you don't have any warranty anyway - so if something happens to it, you can not send it to them to get it fixed or anything...

you can still download any updates from their site...

for support, you would get any help you need on the forum...

nope, just gotta make sure it's unlocked from the previous vehicle...

you'll need to get the serial cable and power adapter, so you can connect it to your PC to be able to update it to the latest revision, and for transferring tune files if that need arises...

but once you get it, you'll want to update it to the latest revision before you hook up to your car anyway, since the latest revision is when 08 Vette support was introduced...

Are these just Radio Shack items or are they something specific from Diablo?

1: Serial Cable:
Standard straight-through DB9 (9-pin to 9-pin) RS232C serial cable (6 foot cable is more than enough). Check your computer to see if you have a male or a female port on the back, as some are different. You will need a male end to go into your Predator.
(Radio Shack Part # 26-117, 6-ft DB9 male to DB9 female shielded cable.)

2: Power Adapter:
CLASS 2 TRANSFORMER
OUTPUT : 12VDC 1000mA (1 Amp)(Radio Shack Part # 273-1776)
Note: Plug Tip is 2.5mm x 5.5mm, female, and center is positive.(Radio Shack Part # 273-1717)

Radio Shack normally carries both of these items. Most Wal-Marts have the Power Adapter (multi output version).

but, if your PC does not have a serial port, and only has USB ports, you'll need to get a serial-to-USB cable... and if that's the case, make sure you install the usb cable drivers that should come with it, so that your pc and the apps recognize the cable correctly.
