a "tune" ?? I'm still really new to all of this stuff, so you're going to forgive my ignorance. What is a tune? My car (07 C6) is bone stock. It has 21K on the odo. Do I need a tune? Is it all software, or are there 'mechanical' items involved. Is this just a reflash? My car runs great, but I just want to stay on top of things. Appreciate you time guys.
I wouldn't bother with a tune on your car. A tune is someone taking some software and reprogramming your computer in your car. You would pick up some hp by doing it, but it would not be worth the cost IMO

Your car is controlled by a computer. This computer is programmed with instructions that depend on data. A "tune" alters the data that your program uses. GM used very conservative data, so a "tune" replaces that data with values that enhance performance yet provide a smaller margin for safety. I, and others like me, believe the tradeoff is justified as we think that GM was too conservative.
Your foot will be the judge when you first punch it and it feels like a different car.
Until you modify the car you don't really need a tune.
A tune is not to be confused with a "tune up" that harkens back to the old muscle car era (or just older non FI cars in general).
The fact your car has 21K miles on the odometer doesn't mean it needs a tune anymore than if it had 121K or even 100 miles on the odometer.
A tune might add a little more timing, lean out MAPs (to squeeze a little more HP), or maybe turn off Torque Management... A tune is generally performed after physical power adders (IE: Headers, heads, intake, cam, etc...) are installed on your car.
You don't need a tune. However, if your car is running rough or having problems running, then ya might need a tune-up!
Guys, thanks for taking the time to reply. I have a better understanding now. Until I learn a lot more, or modify the car, I think I'll just stay with the status quo. Again, thanks. JB
Even on a stock C6, there is some nice gains from a tune. Whether it is an automatic or manual, it is worth it. I tune cars in the Austin area and my 2008 C6 M6. My car is much better after tuning with a wideband since GM's values are horrible. Just today, I tuned 2 Silverados 5.3L's and they perform so much better.
