Hi guys, im still new to vettes and still learning. Anyway i recently bought a 05 z51 vette with borla cat back and some sort of aftermarket air intake. As far as i know that was all that was on the car. Well since i bought it i have had problems with the cooling fans not turning off and the idle bouncing up and down. Well i took it back to the dealer and they had to change out the ECM. They said it wasnt picking up the fan module. Well after i got it back the problems are gone but the 1 to 4 shift is there and my wife says it seems to be lacking in power from before. I know about the 1-4 shift from my previous gto. My question is would you usually throw a tune on a vette with just cat back and an intake? If so i might have to get one. Sorry so long and thanks in advance.

Sounds like you already had a tune, and it may have been boogered up.
If you set the fan temps wrong, they'll run constantly. If the idle airflow table was played with (or any number of other tables) that could cause the surging. Sounds like the skip shift had been removed, and by what your wifey says, it may be down on power. Sounds like it was tuned, and had some issues.
Anyways, you CAN tune it, but there's not a ton to be gained. But, you can have the skip shift removed, and the fan temps correctly set to come on earlier.
I guess I am one of the few that say tune a stock car After tuning mine, the low end is very much improved and gained 20 rwhp over stock. With the fan temps, TM, fueling equation/MAF adjustments, the car is much better. Driving in the twisties, the car has more torque and is more fun to drive. Now, I don't plan on modding very soon but, if mods are in your near future.....then, wait.
