Default Predator or Custom Tune

Hey Guys,

I already received my 160 Deg. Stat and will be getting the Vararam Snake Charmer for my LS3 sometime this week.

I am a little torn between getting a custom tune or just ordering a Diablosport Predator and using that until I get some more mods.

My dilemma is that I am not 100% on tuning the car with just an air filter and a thermostat. I'll be getting long tubes in March so that makes more sense for me to get a tune then. Yes, drivability will be improved with a custom tune but shelling out ~$300-$400 for a tune now and doing it all over again in two months doesn't make a lot of sense.

What do you guys think?

March isn't that far away. If it were me, I would wait until March and do the CAI, thermo, and headers at the same time and do a tune then.

You sir, have a lot more patience than me. I don't mind putting the thermo and vararam on now and not doing anything til March, though...

You shouldn't have a problem, just get tuned in the spring. The mods just won't show a whole lot of improvement until after the tune but don't let that stop you from installing them sooner. You'll just notice your coolant temp will drop while driving and rise while sitting still because the fan won't be set to take advantage of the lower stat. No harm, just no gains. As for the CAI, you'll still see some improvement over stock without the tune, just nothing to write home about.

I'll probably end up doing it next week anyway. The one thing that bothers me is the throttle response. My mustang had the same issue when I first got it and the tune definitely helped things along. Granted a tune for the Xcal2 I had cost me $40 so it wasn't that big of a deal.
But after moving the stang up to 4.30's the vette seems a bit piggish off the line, can't wait to fix that issue.

You'll need fan adjustments as soon as you put the 160 stat in.You can do that with the predator.

I missed chuck's tuning day a few weeks back so I am leaning towards going with Torq performance in miramar. I know the guys personally and the #'s Paul Meister is getting with vettes are quite impressive. Plus they are down the street from me so if I have any issues I can take care of it rather quickly.

The car has been driving fine with the tstat and intake for a month now. It rarely gets over 190 degrees unless I am really on it. The only thing that has been amplified is the lag in throttle response and the tranny tune.

You need to contact Chuck Cow and inquire about his AutoCal remote tuning device. I have it and it is great. Almost the same as Chuck sitting in the car tuning it with his laptop. Also, he will do any adjustments/retunes for free. Just email him data logs and he makes the required adjustments and emails them back to you to install in your car. Can't beat a deal like that.

Our SCT handheld with our true custom tunes are cheaper and more effective. Narsh, when you come by the shop again I will show you a graph between our tunes and some other tuners on this forum and the advantages

Will do.. I should be by there soon. This A6 is driving me nuts. Almost to the point where I have Les looking for a MN6 or a Z06 to upgrade to. And its only been 3 months! The wife is going to kill me.

What is the vehicle??? and what mods do you have or are you planning?

The EfiLive AutoCal is absolutely your best choice and by the way, I'm in Florida 5 or 6 times a year if you need any personal attention.

All of my re-tunes for existing customers are FREE.

Before you decide, give me a call and I'll answer your questions for you.

Thanks
