Default 05 Z51 dyno numbers

After finishing up my header install this weekend, finally got a dyno tune. Best pull was 386 Hp and 393 Tq with slight knock. Ended up at 384/392 with no knock (82 F ambient temp). Car feels completely different now - can't wait for the cam install...

I have the following performance mods:

WCC Hurricane intake
Granatelli MAF
LS2 stage 2 ported intake and TB
LG street series headers
Borla Stinger exhaust

Dyno was performed on a Mustang. I hear that these are notorious for being 5-10% low. Is that true? I was aiming for 390-400 Hp, but I guess that's not bad numbers for a Mustang Dyno.

Do Mustangs really read that much lower than Dynojets?

They do read up to 15% lower than a dynojet. As long as you do your before and after pulls on the same dyno you will know what your gains are. Dynojets are usually inertia rollers and mustang are eddy current loaded. You can search the differences if you like. Keep up with the mods.

I did gain 24 Hp and 20 Tq with the tune - that's all that really matters. I'm planning a mild cam in the near future and hoping for another 40-50 Hp with that.

I had a dyno tune done after my cam was installed on a Mustang dyno. When I had a "before" pull done on a Dynojet before the installation of my Fast102, it dyno'd exactly the same. I heard the same story about Mustangs dynoing lower, but I guess it's all how the tuner sets up the dyno.

Both dyno's take their measurements differently. The mustang, when set up properly reads close to how you are driving on the street with the eddy brake holding back the drum under your tires, like the resistance of the street. The dynojet is a weighted drum and measures how fast you can accelerate the drum. It does not take into account the inertia of the drum. The faster it goes the easier it is to accelerate. That is why they read different for the most part. Both are good. Just do the before and afters on the same kind. Preferably the same one. Happy motoring.

MOST dynojets are not eddy current units, they do not load the vehicle properly to simulate the vehicle weight on the street. Mustang dyno's are all eddy current units and load the vehicle like its driving down the road. This is why dynojets and other non eddy current units read higher. Eddy current units will give you a more accurate number and also will allow for better tuning as its actually simulating true vehicle weight and driving conditions.

Thanks for the info. I do plan on using the same dyno for all future mods, so it will give me a good feel of the gains associated with each new mod.
