I've had poorer than normal gas mileage for some months now and can't really figure it out. Back in June, out of the blue, I had a P2176 code (first and only code I ever got) come up. It began by it not starting for a few tries, then started up with no problem???? After that, nothing's been out of the ordinary while driving, etc. Went to AZ shortly afterwards and they read it and it said "Minimum throttle position not learned ECM". Also. no other codes came up. Can this cause bad gas mileage??? I've looked on line, etc. but can't find if this could be a cause. Btw, I was normally getting 18 - 21 mpg and if I babied it around and on the causeway where I drive, I could get into the high 20's and even 30+ (if I was being ridiculous about it). Now i'm pushing it to get 13, 15, maybe barely 17, if I'm lucky. Anyway, I now have 19K and change on it and have not had any problems during my 4 1/2 years. Waterpump was replaced by the dealership last year but that's it. Anyone know?
The difference between the predicted and the actual throttle position is more than a calibrated amount for more than 1.5 seconds.
Sounds to me like you need to get your throttle body checked out. The ECM says one thing, the TB puts it somewhere else. Probably why your gas mileage sucks.

Hmmm. I did pull the MAF and cleaned it good with CRC MAF cleaner when I also cleaned the Vararam filter. That was done after the fact so it wouldn't be the cause. I had Pete (V-Max) port my tb a few years back and have taken it off and on a few times for various reasons. I was always careful while doing it, as well as with the MAF when cleaning it. What would I look for if I were to look at the tb? see if the butterfly sticks, are any discoloration, etc???
It is a positioning issue while running. You may need to have EFILive scanning your car while you are driving to see what the TB is actually doing. I doubt anything would jump out and bite you as to the cause of the problem. It might be gummed up or sticking so an inspection might help but the actual position of the TB vs the demanded position from the ECM is what causes the 2176 code.

That's exactly what Patrick (Vararam) told me when I called him the other day to get his thought. I've called him over the years with different questions. He said if I was there at his place, he'd find out what's going on in a heartbeat but for me to borrow one or find a friend with a handheld and track it at different speeds (cruising, WOT, etc.). And then call him with the data. He said he's interested in the voltage at the different parameters and could probably tell from that. So, been trying to find one but hadn't yet.
Hopefully you can find someone closer than me to run a scan for you.

Thanks Elmer. I may take you up. Not only do I need to find one, but also someone who knows how to use the dadgum thing (ha ha). Btw, in my decades of surfing days, Jax was always great! I posted these pics on the other thread . . .
