Default E85 cooling

Hi guys,

is E85 also cooling the engine like methanol when you use it instead of normal fuel? What to change for using it and is it also better for the motor or only for more power?

Thank you

E-85 (104 octane) with ethanol develops approximately 18% more power than 93 octane, runs cooler (lowers the cylinder charge temperature) but is about 20 to 25% less efficient (need and uses more fuel).

Compared to race gas like c16 ($9+/gal), the $3/gal price more than makes up for the mpg loss and very slight octane loss. Compared to 93, it is still close to a wash.

Additional power advantages come primarily from the ability to add more timing (app 4*) and/or higher compression ratio (upwards of 3 points) on the original 93 octane setup.

Fuel system capabilities (pump, injector, line sizes etc) are the key elements to consider when making the change. Depending on performance levels the mods could range from upgraded injectors/tune to a complete high perfromance fuel system from pump to rails. We just completed a retrofit of a 2005 C6 procharged 700 rwhp setup (9.9 sec/134mph) which ran exclusively on C16. Car continues to make 700+ ......only fuel is $3 gallon.

Thank you for the oinformation.

i use the big RSI fuel system and 2000 ccm injectors from bosch There is enough reserve for more fuel.
Tha best thing to know is that the motor runs cooler because i´m a little bit angry to change from the VSY V7 to the procharger F1x.

Do i need a control box that sees what fuel is in the tank?
Has the E85 the same cooling effect than methanol?

E85 doesn't have quite the cooling qualities of methanol, but assuming you are speaking of an injection setup, the E85 should burn cooler. The good news is you don't have to worry about another system to fail or the tank to run dry at the worse times.....

If you are running straight Methanol, then not.

Is the lt1 engine otherwise compatible or do seals and such need to be changed?
