Stubborn Trouble Code
Additional details: After having my steering column lock fail for the second time on my 2005 w/MN6, I installed a bypass. Now the car starts fine, but I'm seeing what I believe is a stored code showing up on the DIC ("Service Column Lock.") The reason I believe it is a stored code and not a current one is because a) the car starts up immediately upon pressing the start button, and b) the message appears on the DIC at precise 10-minute intervals while the car is running.
I did try to read/clear the code with my current scan tool (an ELM 327 clone from OBDPros running a demo version of a commercial OBD-II software package) but this could not even see the code, let alone clear it. I read somewhere on the forum (sorry, don't have a link handy) which stated that there are some codes that can only be cleared by using a Tech-II - could that be what's going on here? Or do I simply need a better scan tool? I'm willing to invest some coin in a good tool (or software package), but they're pretty expensive and I don't want to drop $100+ if it's no going to solve my problem.
FWIW, I also tried disconnecting the car's battery for 30 minutes to see if the RCDLR (or whichever module) would "forget" the code, but no luck.
