Just finished the heads and cam swap on my c6Z. Took it to the tuner to find out the ecu is locked from the previous tuner!!! I've been told the dealership can factory reset the ecu allowing my tuner to access the ecu.... Is this true or have I been misguided thanks.

yeah, unfortunately a tuner lock is like a password on a computer. NEVER NEVER accept a tune from a shup that locks the tune.
I thought you could still flash the pcm regardless. The tune is locked, so you cannot read the pcm. You will need to purchase new credits, but I could have sworn you could perform a "write entire" with another tune that is not locked. Like another stock calibration.
Don't think full write will work if it's locked, at least not on E38's. Seems like that was an option on the older gen 3 stuff but it's been a long time since I've messed with those

I searched, and you are correct...once locked, they cannot be overwritten with tech II or HPTuners.
Can you expand? What would be upgraded over an 09 E38? Either reply or pm me...thanks!
For you, it would add the integrator delay table for O2 sensors which can help with drivability. You'd also get a larger IFR limit for later on down the line if you ever run large injectors.

OK Thanks...helpful info. I'm bookmarking your WS.
