Default Modded 08Z

Well I have been reading and reading on here since buying an 08Z. I will be getting here delivered late next week.

Now, I am already having some worries and this might be the best place for some information on what to do.

Considering I am in Australia the amount of tuners that are knowledgeable with a C6 and LS7 is minimal. I don't even know if there is anyone out there specializing in this field here as they are very uncommon cars.

The car drove fantastic and was an animal. I do however want to do everything in my power to give the engine the most life as possible.
I don't have specific details on the CAM installed other than Motor Sports 600HP cam. I may get the specs with the car when it arrives as they are looking for the paperwork.

Other than CAM it has had, Killer bee CAI, RPM Motorsport head work ( I imagine to match CAM), Ported Intake, American racing headers, high flow cats, borla exhaust.

Power is supposedly 670hp /560 Torque.

All this work was done when the car was still in the USA with only 500 miles on it. The car has now 11,250 miles on it. The suspension has also been updated and larger front and rear sway bars.

I am glad that the heads were done as the valve guide issue has been taken care of.

But now waiting for the car to arrive I am getting a little stressed if the car has had a good tune done to it.

So I was thinking would it be in my best interest to get the car onto a DYNO and get the numbers checked and also what kind of A/F ratio it is running at?

I have read a lot of people are using HP Tuners to log and tune their cars. I would have to learn this for the C6. I used to tune 3rd gen Camaro's previously but this would be a new system for me.

I don't think I plan on doing any other mods. Is it possible to get the tune pretty good when on the dyno or will it need datalogs at various situations and tune like that?

If I could get the tune 95% there from a dyno session then that would be pretty good for me. But if that is not possible looks like I need to invest some money and do it properly.

Suggestions?

Funnily enough I found this post on this forum
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...6-is-this.html

This is the car that I just bought.

I would suggest in finding out the exact specs of the build. What lifters and rockers are in the car?

The cam is known as the QM600. I think these are the specs. 242/254 .657/.650 113 lsa

These are the guys selling that cam. http://www.theair-charger.com/index.html

I am not sure what fuel you have there but I'm guessing that the car was tuned on 93+ octane.

What guides were used when the heads were done? Just because they have been replaced does not mean that they are in good shape. My car is on its 3rd set in 7k miles. Stock/Bronze/and now running AHP MS90 guides.

What intake manifold is on this car? Stock ported?

Scary transaction here not knowing any of the details.

Thanks for the info! Well I don't think I will ever know exactly what is inside this engine unless it gets pulled apart.

All I have to go by is this

PERFORMANCE UPGRADES: Quality Motorsports 600HP cam, RPM Motorsports Head Work, Ported Throttle Body, Ported Intake and Tune, American Racing Headers, Cross Pipe with High Flow Cats, Borla Black-Cat Exhaust, Killer Bee Vette-Air Cold Air Induction, Callaway Short Shifter, Pfadt Coilovers adjustable for ride quality and height, F/R Pfadt Sway Bars adjustable with bushing kit, Katech Belt Tensioner, Stock Wheels Powder Coated Black, Blackout Treatment on all lenses. 660-670 HP/560 Torque. 570HP to rear wheels with dyno chart to prove

The tune looks to be pretty good. Considering the size of CAM it idles around 950 pretty consistently although at slow speed you do have some bucking at times at low RPM, but that is the CAM.

I am using 98 fuel here. Intake manifold is stock ported.

I have to ask what are the best valve guides you can put into these engines? And if it comes to replacing components what are the recommendations? Cause, if I have to go ahead with changing parts I might as well do it right the first time rather than trying to save a buck here and there.

So to check the valve guides, is the wiggle test pretty accurate or will the heads need to come off?

At the moment car is running like a champ.

As far as anyone here knows, the best guide material is installed by American Heritage Performace. aka AHP.

They have the hardest proprietary guide material available. I would urge you to give Kohle a call if you find your guides to be worn. He can get you set up with everything you would need. http://www.americanheritageperformance.com/

The wiggle test is accurate enough to determine if you should need work or not.
