a little quick history bought car recently and let it sit in garage for 3 weeks while I went to Hawaii for vacation. Of course when I came back the battery was dead. I jumped the battery from the rear at the battery instead of the recommended location at the fuse box. Car eventually started and I thought all was well. I took a two hour trip last night and ended up stranded when the car decided to take a dump in the middle of the intersection. It did a weird ; lights in the dash went crazy and hard stopped with no power. I tried starting it multiple times and the dash lights looked strange and the engine starter would turn the engine but it wouldn’t start. Also as it was turning it sounded strange again. Hard to explain.
The shop just called me and told me that BOTH fuel pumps were shot and needed to be replaced. I’ve been researching for the last hour looking for a print showing the wiring for two pumps.? I know there are two fuel tanks but I was unaware that it had two pumps. The estimate to replace two fuel pumps is 2500.00! My question is this could the problem be electrical related ? Could I have damaged the battery and then killed it on the long drive or is it possible 2 fuel pumps just happened to die at the same time? Please chime in!

Take your car far away from that shop fast! There is only one fuel pump in the driver side tank. The passenger side tank contains a siphon pump with no moving parts. These cars are notorious for killing batteries. Never happened to me but most say the dash lights going crazy is a dead giveaway the battery is toast. My guess is the battery or alternator are shot. Maybe both
This sounds similar to the issues a customer of mine had - see the thread below:
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...t-happens.html
My customer had the car die on him about 20 minutes into his drive - pulled the car over to the side and tried to re-start it and it ran but very rough (like it was out of fuel) this was one of the more difficult cars I've worked on to diagnose because the symptoms were changing every-time I would drive the car.
Best of luck!

If the shop told you that "both" pumps are shot go to another shop. Run, don't look back. As 92rsz saidm the right side is a venturi pump which is not electrical and will not die if the battery fails. Put a known good battery in it and then check the alternator output. One or both (battery and alternator) have failed.

hahaha
Yes, there is only 1 pump. The passenger side is just a fuel level sensor and some Venturi stuff to transfer fuel over.
Find another shop.
