Default First Tune Help Please

2011 GS Vert, manual transmission.

I just installed a TSP stage 2 cam, ATI 10% under drive, valve springs, and headers and X pipe are in the mail.

I have an MPVI2 Pro that I need to purchase a wideband for.

My question is,

1) which wideband would you all recommend?

2) I have never tuned before, and I was planning on spending time during the COVID outbreak at home in my garage learning about tuning. I need an updated tune for my new cam and headers. Nothing perfect, but something better than the factory tune that is currently installed until I have access to a dyno. Is that something you all can help me with?

best bang for the buck wideband for tuning if you plan to attach the wideband to your HP Tuners.

https://www.bmotorsports.com/shop/pr...oducts_id/2337
if you arent going to attach the sensor to your header, you'll need the tail clamp

If you just want a wideband in the car not for tuning but to show you AFR while driving, AEM has some column mounted units that work well and you can mount that in the header

There are so many combinations it would be near impossible for anyone to send you a tune. There are a lot of videos on YouTube that could help or you can ask questions here. It's a pretty steep learning curve to go from getting HP Tuners to being able to do a safe tune. Any modifications from stock make it harder to tune at first, cams and superchargers make things even harder. I had a deep automotive background but fixing cars is a lot different than tuning them although my background did help.

1) I use AEM x-series, connects easily to HP Tuners, and works with normal MPVI (pro not needed as wideband signal comes through OBD2), see

2) See excellent vids from Goat Rope Garage in YouTube, see especially:

I use the AEM OBD Wideband as well. Makes it super easy to get very fast data. I've never had any issues with them being inaccurate, however, the AFR500v2 are very good WB's (likely better than the AEM in that regard), you just have to actually wire them to HPTuners "pro" input interface where with the AEM you just plug the Wideband into the OBD port then plug HPTuners into that and you're done.

Either way, I think you'll be fine with either of them.

Tune wise.. as a rough starting point, the very basics are to turn the idle RPM up some and to turn the base airflow up so it will idle. Then start tuning MAF and/or VE from there.

For easy MAF tuning you can first dial in your long term fuel trims
Stay out of PE until you get your wideband

It works with all c6’s. Mine is a 2005

They say 2008 because that’s when CAN buses became required. It will still work with models that implemented them prior to 2008.

Thank you all for the help.

I ended up getting Kooks Headers from Amazon. The install is finished and on to tuning I go.

Just a heads up. The AEM x series wideband would not work using the OBD2 connector it came with. I had to use the adapter/extender that came with my MPVI2 Pro to log analog signals from the AEM wideband. Had to swap pins in the AEM first, then cut the OBD2 adapter off the wideband. It all worked out in the end. Just took me a few hours to figure out.

Also, now my traction control seems to be more agressive after the cam install. Not sure why yet, but the traction control seems like its running at 150% of what it used to be.

That is absolutely wrong. I have several that I use regularly, one of them in a C6.

You either got the wrong model, something was wrong with it, or there was user error in setting it up (no offense), but they definitely do work when used correctly

Regardless, sounds like you made it work a different way and that works too.

Yup - change your max torque in torque management under the traction control segment.
