I sent my 2005 3lt RCDLR to G7 Computers in NY to refurbish. I received the RCDLR back but need to have it programmed. The car will start but shuts off after a minute and does not recognize the FOB. Can anyone recommend someone or a shop in Columbia South Carolina that could setup the RCDLR and Fob. The car will only run for a minute or so. Because of this I would like to find someone who could come to my place to program the car ideally. If not I can have it delivered. Thanks for any suggestions.
If it runs for a minute and shuts off it’s not your RCDLR or FOB…what do you mean by “it doesn’t recognize the FOB” ??…what exactly is the car doing and why did you think the RCDLR was bad…what were the symptoms before you sent it out for repair ??…if the car was stalling watch the video..it can be MANY things.
The car FOB would only start the car (2005 3LT manual, convertible) inserted in the reader in the glove box. Six months ago, the FOB stopped locking the car or open the door. I drove it daily for months until I parked it and put it on a tender for two days. I attempt to open driver's door and window. The door acts as if it has no power. Oddly the passenger door and window work. I put FOB in reader, and the car starts. Runs for 5 minutes and dies. Still no driver's door or window power. Car will not restart. I suspected the RCDLR as it stopped clicking and after watching Schneiders videos on YT. I have the original FOB and wonder if it may be part of the problem. I am going to try a couple of the tuners and the dealership in town tomorrow if for nothing more than a reference. The car has run awesome for 180k with no electrical gremlins. Thank you C5 Diag for the link!
First thing I’d do is replace the FOB battery if that’s not been done yet…have you done that ??…if not replace it with a new fresh battery that reads 3.2 to 3.3 volts and make sure you install it correctly…this issue may be caused by and RF interference…make sure you don’t have a cell phone charger plugged in or even your cell phone in the car when trying to diagnose this…any LED interior lights as that may cause interference..read the PIC below from GM…when you start the car do you only hear ONE click…if so that’s a bad RCDLR…this just may be a weak FOB battery if it ALWAYS starts when placed in the pocket..if it doesn’t start when placed in there now you have some issues with the immobilizer system..,if it starts in the pocket the RCRLR is fine…read step 3…if it shuts off you have ANOTHER issue…I don’t know who Schneider is…are you seeing a “No FOB Detected” message ??…a dealership will probably not touch your car as they only replace parts…they aren’t going to waste 2 hours of diagnostic time on it…why you trying a tuner ??…is the car tuned ??…if not they have NO diagnostic experience…they tune cars !!…I’d call that shop I recommend as a minimum….the antennas put out a 125 kHz signal as shown below with a special piece of equipment I have on my labscope…any RF interference close to this frequency can cause issues…your window and door may be another separate issue.
Thanks for the reference. I will call them Monday morning. I had the battery load tested Optima Red top 12.65V. Tested good. I replaced RCDLR then battery. I also replaced the FOB battery but did not test voltage. I will buy new FOB batteries in am. Placed FOB in slot car fires right up. Runs 30 seconds then stops. Electrically everything seems to lock up, freeze. Car won't power down. The RCDLR is making all the right clicks now. Only way to power down is to disconnect battery. I get "service column lock" on the DIC after the engine stops. When the car stopped prior to testing the battery I did get No FOB detected message several times as I repeated the process. The car was running fine with the exception of the FOB for months as it is my daily driver. I am wondering if my ancient FOB has given up the ghost. Thanks again C5 Diag. I will keep you posted as to what Scotts finds.
The FOB will not cause the car to die in 30 seconds…make sure you see 3.2 to 3.3 volts on the battery…let a shop look at it…very difficult to diagnose on a computer especially something like this.
He can’t diagnose a car that stalls or he can’t do programming ??…maybe look for an auto electric shop in your area…if you watched that video there are many variables that can cause the car to die…if he can’t diagnose a stalling issue they are just “parts changers” as a majority of shops are.
The dealer would not even look at it. They said they only service 2007 and newer. I have another lead and will post their name if they are interested in doing the repair/diagnosis.

Only a 2007 or newer ??..that’s a load of c#%p !!…they should know how to diagnose any Corvette…just parts changers like the rest of them.
