Default C6 Exhaust Help

Hey guys
i know the new Vettes havent been out all that long
but i just recently got mine and i have go to get rid of that factory sound, its barely even noticable unless your standing right at the rear of the car

anyhow, i am wanting something with a nice smooth mellow sound but somewhat aggressive at WOT
i want a sound level between the B&B Bullet kit and the B&B Route 66 kit...

the Corsa setups sound ok but they have a muffled sound to them that i dont care for (no disrespect to all of you who have them, Im a Borla guy but i dont know what im wanitng for the C6)
Corsa sounds great on the older cars but i dont like the sound of it on the 6 litre, prob sound better on a more modded C6

as for now im leaning in the direction of the B&B Route 66 kit or one of the Borla kits(i really wanna hear the stinger setup)

i would really appreciate the help
thanks in advance

I wish I knew the answer, but I thought I'd add that you and I are looking for the same thing. I also think the Borla might be the best compromise. The GLH and Magnaflow have a good reputation, but it seems nobody here in the Houston area has ever used them, so I have never heard either (I'm talking C5's or C6's). Also, B&B has given me great customer service in the past - I've had both PRT's and Bullets on my C5's that I really would like to continue to do business with their products.

One thing that intrigues me is putting Bullets and the Corsa "X" pipe with the small resonators that they use on their touring exhaust. That could be an intersting combination - the deep rumble of Bullets, but toned down just a notch with the Corsa front section.

Default B&B Tri Flow PRT

I really liked the B&B Tri-Flow PRT (Purge resonance technology) I had on my 98. It was a real throaty sound but no resonance inside the car when rolling at highway speeds or just cruising.. All I see offered by B&B is the Route 66 system or that other very loud system which looks like straight pipes with no mufflers. Does the B&B Tri-Flow PRT still exist? That's what I want.

B&B has stated that the new Route 66 system is basically replacing the PRT"s and old Route 66. From what they have posted, the new Route 66 is a little louder than the old one, and more in tune (pun INTENDED) with the old PRT system.

Thanks for the info. When the snow finally melts, I'll be looking into the new Route 66 system.

Maybe I should think about putting a set of 10" long Bullet mufflers in the x-pipe to tone down the complete Bullet system?

Billy, as you may know, I am a big fan of B&B. Mike has given me great service on the PRT's and Bullets I have had in the past. I would like to see you try this and see how it works so I can stick with B&B. Something tells me it would be a great combination, and would offer those who are concerned about how loud the Bullets are a "comfort" level that they can tone them down if they want.

I had Bullets on my c5 Vert, and loved them. But I drove the car with the top down most of the time. I'm concerned that with my coupe I could have some interior resonance.

I'm ready to buy as soon as I am sure I don't make a mistake.

Thanks for listening to your customers!

Default Question of the Hour

Sound bytes are deceptive. The mike, the recording system, and finally your computer influence recordings. Lots of bytes out there for about every system. A few guys in So CA got together a few weeks back and posted some really good comparisons on Corsa and Magna Flow . Steve Miller installed BBs and trashed them for Corsa Sports. Everyone you speak to will say their system is great. Of course they just spent a buck and a half for it. My advice would be to go hear in person and then decide. Tough today, unless you can easily get to So CA. Search CF you’ll get a lot of material. I am close to opening my mufflers and ripping out a few baffles just for grins. Good luck

It'd be nice if some vendor that sold all the pipes could put equivalent clips of them all on a website. Sort of a laboratory setting.

A few months ago, one of the bike mags took an R6 and put something like 20 different pipes on it, did dyno pulls on each and then posted the sound clips on their website. Very sweet if you're shopping for a pipe. Probably not as practical with a vette (although there are fewer pipes), but it would be the best answer to a persistant question.

I have done sound bytes as well as dB testing...too many variables. Also I was prepared at my own expense of course to dump the set up I installed (BB X pipe with CORSA Sports) if a. too loud and harsh...not looking to sound like the local Camaro with straight pipes; b. interior resonance was at the droning level & c. performance numbers are not at a + factor. Well the set up I now have does the trick for the a. & b. issues... just right in both categories and now in about a week when I re-dyno I will find the answer to c.

Look forward to the dyno results on your BB/Corsa set up

I understand the need for this, and I really appreciate the request. However, please understand that there are many variables with sound recording (especially over the internet) making this concept quite unscientific. It can not be considered a "laboratory setting". It might be better than not hearing them at all but I just want to make sure you understand that what you hear in real life will be quite different.

Just one example for instance is that not everyone has the same speaker setup (some have subwoofers, different size speakers etc). Listen to the same exact clip on different computer/sound setups and it will sound totally different. Laptop speakers sound different etc.

I'm not thumbing my nose at soundclips, I understand they have a value to some. I only chimed in to express my belief that this scenerio is not a "laboratory setting". If you'd like further explanation please check the FAQ's at www.borla.com .

Thanks

http://www.magnaflow.com/04sound/04american.asp

Here is the soundclip for the C6 with X pipe and catback.

I will send in a request to have different clips put up so you can hear the car with and with out the Magnaflow X pipe vs factory midpipe.

With the proper sound equipment, you can actually get a very accurate sound file. Luckily because of our involvement with various TV shows, Overhaulin, American Hot Rod, we have access to some very high end equipment-

The only thing effecting what you hear would be your computer speakers as you could adjust the bass and treble to change the sound of the car

Thanks
