Engine & Chassis Tuning
Basically, it's calibration at least from an engineering view-point.
For instance:
-Wheel alignment settings
-shock absorber valving
-anti-sway bar stiffness
-spring stiffness
-brake bias
If you start changing suspension mounting points, changing control arms or brake calipers, etc. Then you're not tuning, but modifying.
Modification and Tuning have become morphed lately.
In the most basic form, Tuning is playing with what is already there without adding or removing anything.
You can do that with software, but in practical terms you would switch out springs, anti-roll bars, shocks, bushings, brake rotors and brake pads.
Pros are that you end up with a better handling and feel. The cons are it takes time and costs money and if you get it wrong you end up making things worse.
