I have a 2 week old C6 with MN6 transmission. I purchased the CAGS C5/C6 eliminator (p/n 11122120) from West Coast Corvettes. I tried to install it this AM, but was not successful. Their tech support does not open for another hour or so.
I found the CAGS harness going to the transmission (driver's side) and removed it from the connector on the transsmission housing. The eliminator part with the resistor seemed to fit the harness end but the close-out plug for the transmission side does not fit. I ran the car with the resistor end plugged into the harness and the transmission side empty (short drive around the block). However, this is where is gets strange. The CAGS system is still operative. The light comes on (expected) but the solenoid still engages and forces me to shift from 1st to 4th. My assumption is that the computer engages the solenoid to lock out the shift to 2nd, but if not connected to the transmission, how can the CAGS still operate? I tried this multiple times and was always forced to move into 4th, when the CAGS was activated (dash light on).
I will call WCC when they open but has anyone else had problems with their part? I am not getting a check engine light, so it would seem the computer thinks the resistor is the solenoid. I am wondering if this part number is not the right one. It specifically says C5/C6 on the package.
Ahhh... I see the problem. I got the wrong connector. I was cheating and not using a lift. I slid under the car and the plug that is easily visible is not the CAGS system. Now I see the need for the lift or ramps. I'll go out and correct the dumb problem and try again.
Thanks for quick response. The link had great pictures!
A word of warning to those who follow: The pictures on the instructions provided with the WCC CAGS eliminator are worse than useless. They are low quality, very grainy and might actually be wrong. I can't be sure but I think they show attaching the eliminator to the wrong plug/harness. My problem was caused by trying to insert the CAGS eliminator into the transmission plug that is more easily visible from the back end of the car. The instructions do not warn against this. (Always know which hole you are aiming for... ). The link provided by SilverCoupe has MUCH BETTER pictures and immediately pointed out the error of my ways.
In the end no damage was caused. I don't know what the other plug is for, probably some sensor system. However, I did break the locking clip off by accident when I first removed that one . Live and learn, but more importantly, drive your new Corvette!
The corvette tech and corvette parts man at my dealership says that the CAGS eliminator has caused some problems in C6 vettes. He says it causes them to "burn out" or "burn up".
Has anyone run the C6 with the CAGS eliminator for a long period of time (3000+ miles or so)? If so, any problems?
First of all, I have 2,000 miles with my CAGS eliminator, and no problems. This has been posted for years on the forum by dealers saying that there may be damage - but I have never heard of even one case of a properly installed CAGS elilminator causing any problems.
Now, to the original post. Isn't it great how quickly this forum can help out? It always amazes me
The plug you pulled the first time was the one that triggers the NOS to kick in when you go above 4500 rpm. You should have noticed a lack of power at higher speeds (I assume you keep your bottle filled - right?)
I am thankful to the forum for several reasons. First, the quick response to my problem, which helped getting it fixed.
Second, I stumbled onto this forum at the end of 2004 when doing a general search on C6 information. I made the "fatal" mistake of visiting a dealership while on vacation, just to check out the new Vette. I had not seen one but immediately was struck by the overall design of the car. That got my interest up, and from there, one thing let to another, and today I am the happy owner of a beautiful new MY C6 coupe. The forum became my life for a while as I researched and read about the new generation. This is my first vette and I get as much enjoyment out of the looks and comments I get as driving the car. I even purchased my car from a supporting forum dealer.
Thanks to the members of this forum for helping me see that life without a corvette is just not complete. It wasn't hard talking my wife into it either, since I bought her a 02 Boxster S for Christmas a few years ago. Now, we have his and hers sports cars

Thanks
i have just over 10,000 miles on my c6 and no problems.
GM nicely lables the correct wire to pull with a little white tab that says "skip shift". I guess they know we are going to do it, and don't want us pulling off the wrong one!!
