1SB, or Performance Mods?
I am about to order my C6, and I am debating between getting the 1SA or the 1SB option package.
If I get the 1SA:
Pros:
-I will have $2500 to spend on performance upgrades
-Kooks Headers at a minimum, and I'm debating on whether to throw on the x-pipe or put on a Corsa Sport. I don't know if I will have money for both. The way I understand it, I will get more power out of the headers and pipe, but the sound will remain the same as stock. If i get the headers and corsa sports, the sound will be great, but the gains not as good. Am I correct?
-There's a certain feeling I will get knowing my car is all go, no show. It's knowing that it's more "raw" in a sense, no unnecessary frills, it's all about performance. And I want that feeling everytime I look at my car and sit in it, and drive it.
Cons:
-Can the drivetrain handle extra power if I do these mods?
-There'll be a spot on the dash, outlined where the HUD would be, but is not. The buttons on the left of the steering wheel will be fake. I will not have my tach up on the windshield, easily to see when to shift.
If I get the 1SB:
Pros:
-I'll have the HUD! It has some coolness factor, not just to me, but people looking at the car!
-6-disc CD changer, and upgraded bose!
-Telescopic steering wheel
-Shouldn't 400hp be enough?
Cons:
-Do I really need the HUD? The only time I think it would become truly useful is when redlining and knowing exactly when to shift without looking down. But, if I have corsa's, I'll probably be able to hear when to shift pretty easily. Not to mention, I could always go aftermarket and get a shift light kit. But, I hate the aftermarket look.
-Mostly useless features: Heated seats which I'll rarely use if ever (I never use them in my 350z), homelink transmitter (i dont have a garage), dimmed mirrors I couldn't care less about, memory package (I will be the only one driving)
-I listened to the 1SA radio, and it suited me fine! Do I really need the upgraded bose? The 6-cd changer is nice, but really, most of my commutes are less than 30 minutes, 1-cd should be adequate, and 1SA still has MP3 capabilities!
-I'll probably look at my car, and always think about the performance gains I could have had, instead of some of the fluffy thrills.
So, basically, I'm looking for opinions! I value everyone's opinions, and currently I am dead center, and it sucks. I think that either way I go, there will be some amount of regret, as getting both 1SB AND performance upgrades is NOT an option. Help me out here,
Joe
You mentioned modding later on. I've thought about it, but if I used money saved up in the future to mod, well, then I wouldn't really have much savings! This is hard,
Joe

mods are for tax returns...

I'm sure 1SB is nice, but 1SA is fine. I love it and have a $6K mod allowance. I figure most people paid $50K+ for their loaded cars. I paid $44 and plan on loading myself with some under hood goodies.

plus you can finance the 4K. That will cost you about an extra $68/mo for 5 yrs. ZIP in VA did Kooks, Hi-Flo Cats, Corsas & a few dress up items for $3K

As a former F-14 backseater, I am a definite "techie" but don't miss the HUD at all ... the standard guages are absolutely beautiful and the DIC display has alot of information with a good amount of information.
I saved a lot of money not getting the 1SB, and can now put that money into a lot more things for the car.
I got the 1SA (vice the 1SX) for the side airbags and the better seats.
Of course, got the 6-speed and Z-51... just wanted a great sports car, period, with fewer frills to break in the long run. I have a Lexus with a NAV, and I dread the day I have to replace that thing for a few thousand bucks!!!! Don't know what the HUD will cost to replace after the warranty runs out in three years on the vette...
