Default Console Removal Procedure

Can anyone explain how to remove the console/shift **** so I can replace the shifter boot. Pic's would be nice, but hey any info is better then guessing.

The shift **** does not twist off, the leather is clipped into the console and should come loose if your gentle, then you have to lift the leather boot up and there is a screw on the side that holds the shifter in. Good luck and be careful when pulling on the leather boot....

Thanks, I figured it was more of a simple process then pulling everything apart.

Getting the boot off to replace it. That actual process is somewhat harder to describe then to perform. The boot is attached to a oval plastic ring that has long tabs that hold the ring and boot to the underneath the console opening with upward pressure provided by a foam pad. By pressing down on the boot at the tab location, reach in with your fingers and pull the tab into the opening. There are 5 tabs. The shift **** is a drop on the shaft affair and is held in place with a single #20 torx head screw. A word of advice tho is to read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance before you approach the task
