Default Too much power...

Looking to put a charger on the C6 along with some long tube headers and exhaust. My question is, can the car handle this much power? I dont take it to a dragstrip or ever run drag radials - strictly the typical onramp acceleration or the 25MPH role type of thing. I'm concerned that the transmission wont handle it or the drivechain in general... What do you guys think?
(Does the new Z have a heavier system?)

Manual? Auto?

Guessing you'll gain about 100hp...

You'll have traction issues with stock tires, that's for sure.

Drivetrain? Depends alot on driving style. Drop the clutch on sticky tires and you'll probably loose something. I'm a C5-er so that's my experience base, but many guys are ok with S/Cs...might think about hardened output shafts etc. If your a gentle driver you may be ok for a while.

In general though, these cars are optimized, and designed for what is needed, plus margin (no reason to put a clutch that can handle 700hp in a car with 400hp). Adding 100hp is eating into a lot if not all of that margin.

If you go this route just be prepared...it's always a game of next weakest link.

Yeah, thats my concern. (It's a manual). I know a hardened shaft is one option and not that expensive so that's a likely upgrade as well. Its really the tranny and clutch I'm concerned about. While I'm not one for anything other than street tires and I never pop the clutch, I just dont know enough about the entire system in general to know what I might be getting into. I just enjoy the acceleration when its hammerred at about 30MPH!

That's exactly right. You know know you're making HP when you start breaking things!

Drive it 'til it breaks Seriously, with the driving style you reference it would be a long time before you have issues. Frankly, you'll break the tires before an actual part....

Unless you are doing very hard launches, you should not need the shaft. It's the sudden "jerk" and little give from a set of sticky tires on launch that will break a shaft....not roll-ons like you are describing.

Isn't the clutch the same that's going in the 505hp Z06? He should be okay.

The new T56 in the C6 and ZO6 is rated at 650HP, its almost the EXACT same tranny that you see in the Viper hahaha. As for the clutch, if you plan on getting more than 500hp, look at a Centerforce Dual Friction, and a lighter weight aluminum flywheel, itll transfer the power just that much cleaner. The C6 has a lot of growing room, and I think the ZO6 will have similar growth potential to the 600hp region.

Have fun with it
