Default Competition tires

Gentlemen

I have been not having much success in finding auto-x tires for the C6 that will mount to stock wheels sizes. I must use stock wheel sizes in order to compete in Supser Stock class.

Could one of you please come to my aid and find some for me?

Greatly appreciate your support and advice.

Garry, they do not make a 19" competition tire anywhere. I looked also and could not find anything. You can get a Pirelli or Michelin (insert your favorite manufacturer here) and go with one of their Ultra Performance tires and do pretty well but the only way to get the competition tires is to go to an 18" set of wheels. Sorry.

When my local distributor talked to the regional distributor he said that Hoosier was supposedly working on a 19" but take that with a grain of salt, could be rumor.

Thanks guys for confirming my findings as well. No 19" anywhere.

I talk to the Hoosiers factory and they currently have no plans to do a 19" tire this year or next.

Default Hoosier and Kumhos

I emailed Hooiser and Kumho about a month ago and they both said competition tires to fit C6 soemtime in the Fall of 2005. Right now I am using a set of BFG G Force KDWs. Will see how they work this Sunday.

You can get Pirelli Corsas in stock rear sizes. You might be able to put the 265/35 18 on the front (if not, the 255 would fit). I'm pretty sure it is the only 19 inch competition tire right now. They're not Hoosiers, but they are better than the max performance tires.

NOTE: Kumho will have AutoX tires for the C6 Z06 in the fall.. I went with 18" F/R Kumho V710's.. 285/30/18 and 315/35/18R and they fit w/o modification on a 9.5" front and a 10.5" rear..

So far i own the region in ASP.. nothing can touch the C6 wrapped in that rubber.. 4 events.. 4 wins.. i mean SECONDS faster then other cars in ASP and equivalent to just a bit better times then the C5 Z06 running in SS.

The C6 Z06 wheels will NOT fit the C6 so you will need some new wheels to be able to make use of the new kumho's coming out.. as there is no way you can stick a 3xx tire on a 10" rim safely.

Actualy they are worse.. track duty sure but for AutoX you cant get enough heat into them to make them usable.. like hockey pucks.. better off with street tires.

While I can't speak for the Corsas in particular, I can tell you that the Nitto RII's (a similar tire) definitely have more cold grip than GeForce KD's (the best gripping Max performance tire I have seen).

I should qualify that my uses are street and road course and not autocross. However, cold starts on the street (with well over 500RWHP) are what I'm basing this on. Are the Corsas that much more heat dependent than the Nittos?

I am running Alex's old set of Kumho's mounted on the Champion Motorsports wheels and I can definitely say that combination is extremely lethal on a road course. Just got back from a Porsche Drivers Ed last weekend and on those tires I put a full lap on a group on a 1.8 mile road course in one 20 minute session. Those tires are wicked.

Alex

Interesting thought about ASP on 18" wheels.

About how much are the tires?

Do you know of any inexpensive wheels the right size for this combonation?

If you dont need them to match you could get a 9.5" rear tire for the C5 and put it on the front of the C6 and get a C5 Z06 tire for the rear.. that will work

I'm not sure if anyone else has received any updates lately, but here's a response I just got from Jeff @ Hoosier:

"Brian,
Sorry for the late response. Work has been pretty busy. We are planning to offer a P315/40ZR-19 R3S04(road race) and A3S05(autocross) tire possibly in the next couple of months.

Please write back next month to get more specific information. This size should work on the rear of your car. As time progresses, we may be offering more sizes in 19".
Thanks again for contacting us. Have a good weekend.

Only problem is 315/40/19 is too tall.. not to mention the V710 is still a better AutoX tire then the A3S05 even though its well over a year old.. Sucks... The demand will be there when the C6 Z06 comes out.. i know Kumho has them in the works in OEM+1 sizes for the Z06

Thanks for all the info & updates guys.

I finally ran my C6 Z51 on stock tires vs my 99FRC on Hoosiers. Ona 70 second course the 99FRC was 2.0 seconds quicker. Based on this if I had the same tires on the C6 what should it have turned?
