Default Tires?

I have 5k miles on my z51 tires and the rears are shot.My fronts have 3/16" tread life which calculates to half life.I can put a second set of rears on for 650 installed which ( if the fronts make it ) should give me another 5k miles.I don't do burnouts but live in the mts and its rough on tires. My other alternative is to try something like the Falken FK 455 performance tires http://www.vulcantire.com/451_t.htm they have a 30day test drive which allows you to try the tires and if you don't like them full credit towards whatever ( PS2's if they're available ).Of course like PS2's they are non-runflats but since this is my weekend toy I'm not concerned. The Falkens would run 980.00 installed, the Goodyear Rears 650 installed. What would you do?Seems like replacing the rears makes most sense to me but will I really get the fronts to last the second set of rears.

If you go through damien motor sports web site link to the tire rack you will save even more.
I bought a mini compressor wallmart for $15 and a plug kit wallmart $9.
If all else fails call a tow truck!!
My c6 is a weekend toy not a dail driver so no worrys here

Default Wow!!

Arch,
No Burnouts and wasted tires at 5K?
Bet your Lady takes the beast out after you fall asleep and "lights-up" the tires. I'm at 9,200. After 6k I measured tread depth and calculated 28k. I do mostly Interstate driving on well maintained roads.

The front-runners seem to be Mich PS2s (tread wear 220). BF Goodrich tires are well rated and have a better thread wear rating (300) as do the OEM Goodyear non-Z51 tires.

Have read many pros & conns on run-flats. Biggest detractor is that you run the risk of wheel damage. I’m replacing with non-run-flats (less expensive and lighter) and will carry a can of fix-a-flat. If I get a flat, I’ll either call AAA or use the fix-a-flat knowing full well that I’ll have to suck up a $60 tire sensor.

Did you bitch REAL LOUD to Goodyear? I did with a front set on my C5, years ago, that wore out at 9000 miles! They gave me 2 for 1!

i guess you missed my post last december when i had to replace my rear tires (Z51) at 8K miles.....

and my post of about two weeks ago when the replaced set of rears is almost gone at 14K....

the answer? .....well, at least for me anyway, it was the rear alignment being WAY out...the guy at the alignment shop was surprised to see it so far out.....so i figure it was out from the factory

better check your alignment.....

Going to the dealer tuesday to have my climate control changed under warranty.I'll ask what they can do for me and bitch to goodyear but the wear looks pretty even to me.They seem to be worn in the center even though I keep them inflated to 30psi.I may spend the money for an allignment check(25.00) just for peace of mind.

Tire Rack does not always have the best price.I called Discount Tire 595.00 delivered and 50.00 to have them mounted and balanced at my local shop.If I want to go to Atlanta the discount tire retail store there quoted me 680 mounted and balanced. That's for the super emt z51 tire
