Default here is a brake pad recommendation

I have been using Carbotech XP8 pads for track days, and have been very pleased with them. But, they create way too much noise for street use. At the same time, I have never been very satisified with the OE pads used with the C6 Z51 package. At the recommendation of one of my driving school instructors, I tried the original C5 ZO6 pads. I put them on this afternoon, and they feel great! I haven't driven them very aggressively yet, because I put new rotors on too, and I need to season them a bit before bedding the pads. But, I can tell from a little moderate use, that the pedal feel is more solid, and the initial bite is significantly better. If anyone is looking for good street pads, you might want to try them. Here are the part numbers, because they are not the numbers you will get if you just ask the counter guy at your local dealer: front, 88952008; rear, 12530688. They also come with new caliper pin bolts, new pad retaining springs, and one anti-rattle spring per caliper, which I could not figure out at all. But it's obviously not necessary, and after puzzling over them a few minutes, I tossed'em. Given the aggressive feel of these pads, I expect they might dust and squeal a little. But I noticed no noise today, and I'm sure if there is any, it will be nothing like the track pads.

You say you changed the rotors. Did you replace them with the stock type or something else? Do you have a part number? I would be interested in your feed back on the new pads and rotors after your next HPDE if you would post it in the roadracing forum.

Thanks

Yes, I replaced the fronts with OEM replacements, 89060328. I have also bought non-Z51 caliper brackets and a set of NAPA C5 rotors. If after-market replacements are not available in Z51 sizes by the time I need to replace them again, I am going to switch to the C5 rotors. In fact, I might anyway; they're almost 4 pounds lighter per rotor.

I had the Z51 squealing and dust problem so I ordered the C-6 Ceramic Pads from Parts Bob last week. GM Part #88909667 Front and #88909668 Rear.

A couple of weeks ago I arrived at Road America with about half of my Carbotech pads left. I finished the first day with those and put on a set of Z06 pads for the second day. I had to cut the day short because they were completely gone after my 3rd session. They definitely don't dust like the Carbotechs but they didn't hold up like them either. They were not only worn down to the metal, but the metal was warped and twisted when I removed them. Just my .02

Do you know if the pads you used were the same part numbers as I listed? I ask because, as I said, the parts counter folks do not come up with those numbers if you just ask for ZO6 pads. And the instructor that gave me the numbers reported an experience just like yours until he got the correct part numbers. Of course, I got them for street use, and they are not track pads. But, I am a bit surprised at that wear, if they were the same pads.

I used the 88952008 on the front but I had a 88964095 on the rear which seemed to be fine back there. Where do you track at? Road America is probably the worst track for brakes because there are 3 straights that will get you up around 150mph. With the Z06 pads I melted the rubber boots off of the caliper pistons.
