Up here in Canada we don't currently have XM Radio and therefore its not available as an option so my question is can it be added/controlled through the stock NAV unit the way it would if it were factory ordered? I'm not concerned with the subscription because I have family in the states and an address won't be a problem.

Any feedback would be appreciated thanks!
If you can get hold of a module, it'll plug in and the Nav radio will recognize it. A junkyard may be your only option to get a module. The wiring for the module should be present, but you'll have to run the antenna wire and install an antenna yourself. The module mounts near the driver's side rear speaker. Open that up and look for the plug before spending any money.
I've been wondering the same thing. I don't like the antenna on the trunk lid of my vert so I didn't get XM. Now that I don't have it I miss it when I drive the Vette (my daily driver has it). I'd like to get the module and just mount a micro antenna on the dash or as one forum member who added a Roady unit did, mount it behind the passenger seat.
Why would a junkyard be my only source? Couldn't I order a module and it would have new xm id? the antenna wire would come off that module aswell
The problem is that GM Parts doesn't sell the module as a replacement part. A repair part is only available as exchange for a broken unit. So to get a module, you're going to have to get one from a totalled Vette in a junkyard. They do the same thing with the Nav HU, you can't buy one through GM Parts. They only offer an exchange program through Delco for defective units.
I don't *know* what GM is thinking with these policies, but I suspect they do it this way to discourage people from buying a 1SX or 1SA car and then upgrading it to Nav and XM without buying the whole 1SB package. The latter is extremely profitable to GM, and they want buyers to purchase 1SB cars rather than parts of the package piecemeal via the parts counter.
Ya I see what you mean I just came back from the parts counter and found out that its not available as a seperate unit. Time to start searching the wreckers anyone have any suggestions?
I might try the C6 parts section. Maybe someone out there got their car with XM and won't pay to subscribe would be willing to sell the unit to make up the cost. Just my $.02.
