Default Census , When are you ......

I know this has been discussed before but not exactly the same question.

I wanted to find out when you guys and ladies are changing your oil. I already changed it at 1000 miles. I am now at 2700 miles. I don't know what to go by ..............mileage , if so how many, time, if so how long, or by the on board oil life percent, if so at what percent?

Thanks

I am at 2700 miles and 73 %.

1,000 then 5,000 and every 4,000 thereafter. I used to do it every 3,000 but after reading alot about change intervals with synthetics I have come to the realization that every 3,000 may be overkill. Some may argue that even every 4,000 is overkill, but I do it myself and it's cheap insurance and it makes me feel better!

I don't think anyone will argue that a car that is driven in the stop and go traffic of a large city, will require more frequent changes than a car that knocks off 5,000 miles in a month on the highways at 1500 rpm for hours at a time. And the only way you can keep track of that is by counting the total number of revolutions that an engine makes. Since you can't possibly do that and the D.I.C. does, duh. Do what the DIC tells you to do. It's a waste of money and resources to do it any other way. If you are not comfortable waiting till it says 10% left, then do it at 20% or even 30% but what ever you do, don't waste your time, money and resources to do it every 3,000 miles. The DIC is way more accurate than you will ever be. There are several other threads where people did oil analysis at the DIC recommended interval and found that the oil was still virtually new. Today's synthetics are far superior to what your grandfather used 40 years ago.

Nobody will like it, but Dave Hill commented on this at the Bash. He said Y'all need to start changing your oil when the computer says to, not at 3000 miles or whatever, you're just lightening your wallet and filling up our nation's landfills. Its wasteful and unnecessary.

Here's the info on our C6...

At about 2000 miles we added 1 quart to overfill it for Laguna Seca (road race course); after the event we changed the filter with a K&N. Then we kept on driving it...currently 8100 miles...linear extrapolation of the DIC says the oil change will be around 11,000 miles...then and only then will we change out the oil and filter...per Dave Hills engineering team recommendation and our own personal experience with UOAs...

First oil change at 1000 miles. Since I'll probably only put 5,000 to 6,000 miles a year on mine, I plan to change it when the DIC says to or once a year, whichever comes first.

I saw enough crap in the filter after pulling the 500 mile apart to make me change as self scheduled; the 1500 was fairly clean of big FOD and I expect the 3000 to have the normal amount of FOD. Once the filter reaches that point, then I'll take Dave's advice. Until then, me and the land fill will be as one.

Seems most of you are going by Mileage, instead of time or DIC %.
But why?

Just changed mine today, 6500 miles and 50% on the DIC. Next time, I'll wait until the DIC says 25%.

I go by the DIC - usually at about 25% remaining - and you don't have to remember any mileage figures.
