75-80 and Capitol. I've run a half dozen times or so at both tracks and get consistent 13.0 times at both tracks. I'm hoping Ernie is right and I'll see 12.8 or maybe even 12.7. If no showers are in the forecast, we'll know Friday night.

Mike,

You wil see 12.7 for sure. My car is running 12.5's all night long with only the Corsa and Vortex. I have an auto too!

Just got back from test & tune. Here are the numbers I got at the same track under near identical weather conditions before the Vortex install:

Lane-RT-60'----1/8-----1/4-------MPH
2 .5745 2.2122 8.7916 13.2807 112.6453
2 .6263 2.1153 8.5707 13.0283 112.8023
2 .7017 2.1666 8.6890 13.1735 111.9305
1 .5294 2.2120 8.7371 13.2429 110.7057
2 .4427 2.1521 8.6315 13.0664 113.3244

Here are the numbers from tonight after the Vortex:

Lane-RT-60'----1/8-----1/4-------MPH
2 .5147 2.1852 8.7184 13.2119 110.5230
2 .6110 2.2199 8.6781 13.0966 113.4410
2 .3357 2.2118 8.6695 13.0979 113.2383
2 .7243 2.0450 8.4059 12.8270 113.4538

While I did get into the 12's tonight and that had eluded me before, much of what got me that 12.8 can be attributed to me just learning to launch better. I shaved off a good tenth or so from my average 60 foot time on that last run by just not getting down on the gas as fast after releasing the clutch.

I think the Vortex might have given me a tenth and 1 MPH, maybe less. One thing I think the Vortex (and the cooler air) is doing is making the runs more consistent. Most of my runs were 113 MPH tonight and before the Vortex, the times and speeds bounced around a lot, indicating that some runs may have had knock retard or that maybe the warmer air was pulling back the timing.

While I didn't get anywhere near the 2, 3, or even 5 tenths reported by some others, this is an endorsement for the Vortex. The car is more consistent now and can pull as hard as the best pulls from before but do it on every run. I really think the main benefit from the Vortex is that it is allowing the ignition timing and other factors to be used to their potential on every run.

I still don't believe there is any measurable ram air effect from this thing. If you look at my best time from before the Vortex, it took the car 4.4576 seconds to get from the 1/8 mile marker to the 1/4 mile marker. After the Vortex, it did it in a best of 4.4211. That's an improvement of less than 4 hundredths of a second on a run starting at 85-90 MPH and ending at 113 MPH. If there were a ram air effect, I would expect more than 3/100 out of 4.4 seconds which is less than a 1% difference.

Again, not knocking the Vortex. I actually like it and would recommend it. It's just that on my bone stock car with no other mods, it gave me about 12 RWHP which when taken to the track equated to maybe 1/10 and 1 MPH and possibly made the car run more consistent runs at the faster end of the range.

Don't shoot the messenger. I'm just relaying the results as accurately as possible.

Nice runs! Congrats!

Maybe it is because my car is an Auto....

I am now running at 12.5 with your same mods in.

Maybe the auto's take more advantage of the Vortex than MN6's do.

Thanks for the honest and objective write-up Mikey. Just can't justify spending $550 for that amount of performance improvement on the street IMHO.

Does the Vortex have any intake noise/sound?

If you listen for it, you can tell that it sounds a little more throaty, sort of like flipping the air cleaner lid upside down in the old days, but not nearly as noticeable. I don't think it's really any louder in the cabin. Sounds good to me.
