Default A4 Transmission Problems

As I am driving home from the dealership after taking delivery of my new C6 I ran into a shifting problem. I had been driving on the highway for about 10 miles when I noticed that the shifting became extremely firm (harsh). I got off the next exit and came to a stop. I started to drive again and now the transmission was now shifting so hard that the tires would break loose at even a slow roll. I swear it felt like the engine was going to break loose of its mounts. The harsh shifting happened in all the gears, up and down, including the shift into overdrive. It made no difference if I manually shifted or let the transmission automatically shift.

I mean I don't mind a firm shift, but this was ridiculous.

The transmission went back to normal after I started and stopped the engine.

It won’t happen during city driving (so far), but it did happen again today. While driving on the highway, I manually shifted from overdrive down to 3rd gear and continued driving in 3rd gear. About 30 seconds later the check engine light came on and the harsh shifting was back. This is the second time the shifting problem happened, but this time the check engine light came on and is staying on. Again I got the transmission to shift normally by turning the engine on and off. Before I turned off the engine I tried city driving for about 15 minutes to see if maybe the transmission would change its shifting pattern, but the was no change.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem?
Is this just a normal function of the C6?

Thanks,
Joe

Joe, the computer is sensing excessive slippage and increasing the transmissioin line pressure. It happened on my C-5. You can also clear the code to make it go away. But, I would take it back to the dealer and have them fix it. It's probably a programming issue.

Good luck

I have not experienced any problems with the A-4 and I'm at 2,600 + miles
