I want to change wheels. How are the sensors installed in the wheels? What do I need to do to remove them from the old wheels and tell the tire shop so they don't break them?
I believe the actual sensor unit is attached the the valve-stem on the under-side of the rim. I'm not sure if there are other magnetic-contact points located on the inside of the rim or not...I'm thinking its self-contained.

The sensor is on the inside-of-the-tire part of the valve stem.
Make sure when they mount them that they put them on the tire that will go in the same place they came from: i.e., put the left-front sensor on the wheel that will go on the left-front, etc.
If they get mixed up, the DIC will give the wrong pressures for the wrong tires in the DIC display. You will have to take it to the dealer where they use a special tool to reprogram the sensors. Easier to make sure they get mounted on the tire that will go in the same position they came from.
They used a strap to hold mine in place on the new rims.
Yeah, I've heard that some wheels may require the sensors to be "strapped" or "banded" inside the rim, depending on how much room there is in there for them to stick out the inside of the valve stem hole.
rbl, make sure you take them to be mounted by somebody that has the right equipment and knowledge. If they sound like they have any questions, go somewhere else!!!

Great and thanks to all for the info. Tires will be here tomorrow and now I know what to look for.
