A/C compressor most definitely sucks down some HP. In the older days of bigger compressors and weenie motors - you wouldn't have to ask that question - you could feel it
I'm not sure about the C6, but most late model cars cut off the air cond. compressor at full throttle.
Have you noticed a button on the row of Climate Control buttons that looks like a sunburst with a slanted line through it? Pressing that button while the A/C compressor is running will shut it off. See page 3-27 of the owner's manual for details.
I suspect that, like the C5, the C6 will shut down the AC when the throttle is pressed to the floor.
I use the AC or the heater at max to keep my high speed fans running at the drags. I've run 11.6X with the AC on. That would seem to show that there is no loss of HP at WOT with AC on.

I'd say thats pretty respectable with or without AC.

No, I understood the question and realized that others had answered it. I was trying to let you know there's a quick and easy way to eliminate the problem on demand. If you felt like you needed the extra power the A/C HP was using, that gave you a fast & easy way to do it.
Does driving the Vette with the air conditioner on cause lose in HP? I understand gas mileage is impacted but how about power? Thanks
Well my AC has been active for the last two months here in Sunny Florida, and here is what I have seen: 1. AC cuts off during aggressive acceleration. 2. Turning the AC off really doesn't seem to give back any HP or gas mileage that I can detect.

Running the A/C does consume some HP--around 5 or so.
Running the A/C may IMPROVE gas milage if/when the alternative is to have the windows open. The power it takes to run the A/C is less than the extra power it takes to propell the car through the air with the windows down at any reasonable velocity (like greater then 60 MPH)
As the others said, the PCM disables the A/C at full throttle. The stock LS1 program is set to disable the compressor whenever the throttle position sensor is at 100%, or whenever rpms rise above 4895. A/C is re-enabled once rpms drop below 4545.
I guess you don't need A/C when you're zipping along in 5th gear at 150+ anyway...
