I am considering buying a C4 (85-91). My plans are to install a ‘77 350 SBC that I already have souped up and I want to use the C4’s TPI system with the LT1 intake modded for top mounted distributor just as you read about in the thridgen.org boards. The 350 I built has AFR 190 heads (no egr openings), XR282HR CompCam Roller Retrofit cam with roller lifters and roller rockers. Compression is at 9.3 to 1. The XR282HR CompCam specs are dur = 230/236 @ .050, lift (1.5 rocker) = .510/.520, and lobe separation = 110.
Question 1.
I have never owned a C4 before but I am sure that the C4 350 is still a regular SBC. Am I right about this? Except for the dipstick being at different locations because of the year, what problems would I encounter with this engine swap? Oil pan clearances, oil cooler, anything else?
Question 2.
Should I get a custom cam with a wider lobe separation and keep the rest of the cam specs the same if I switch to fuel injection?
Question 3.
Currently, the engine is at around 420 hp carbed. Could I expect the same HP with the C4’s TPI system with an LT1 intake or would I lose HP?
Question 4. Has anyone installed LT1 intake on their TPI systems? If so, tell me about it...
