i took my car to the shop to have Stait pipes installed & When it got on the lift we noticed Red Fluid leaking from the rear end or maybe the tranny? WHY IS THIS? 1100 Miles?
its a 6 Speed & I Did Miss 3rd Gear twice could that do it?
...we noticed Red Fluid leaking from the rear end or maybe the tranny?
Sounds like its tranny or diff fluid, is your car an auto? ATF is usually red.
I would grab a flashlight and start checking to see where it is exactly leaking from. While I am not very familiar with how the C6 rearend is put together with the whole trans in the back thing I would check the common things first, the driveshaft yoke, axles seals, drain and fill points.
I've had it. The dealer said the the diff came over filled from the fatory and it was only leaking when the the oil got hot (expanded). I don't if they're right but I'm keeping an eye on it.
(btw...I never saw evidence of the leak on my garage floor)
Here's how I cope with dealer BS: I have bought Helm manuals for all my GM cars, so I know how they are put together, even if I do get most work done by pros (usually not the dealer, unless it's warranty).
In your case, the tranny is either sealed so it shouldn't leak from overfill, or it's vented and overflows because it's overfilled. The latter is unlikely, but I can't say for sure without knowing the design. In either case, there's a corrective action. "It's normal" is the wrong answer.
