What dealer on Long Island did the work? You definitely have a NY State Lemon Law case at this point. I sell Mercedes in Rockville Centre.

Do a Google search for lemon law in New York. You will find plenty of lawyers. My car has been in the shop 5 or 6 time for over 36 business days and is in the process of being bought back from GM. Actually they rarely get car manufacturers on the lemon law but rather on a Federal Warranty stipulation. You should persue since there is not cost to you.
By the way they don't have to be in N.Y. but just able to practice there.
Here is the search. Take your pick.

Sorry to hear about your problem,I just had my battery go after 2400 miles. They should at the very least give you 2 more years on a warranty and a new vette. You paid good money for a car that obviously has a reoccuring problem.I guess we are the guinea pigs with the first year model.Mine heads to the dealership in the morning after I jump start the car.

Little annoying things (like the frikkin in-dash-cd-changer) are one thing, but a crank pulley going THREE TIMES...

New long block at the least, but I'd insist on a replacement vehicle...

Wait a minute. Am I reading this right? Did the dealer do the diamond washer fix as per the TSB or are they just tightening it back up in a half-arsed fashion? It shouldn't come off again after the diamond encrusted washer fix and if it does after that, time for a new engine!

Ok here we go....the Service writer called me today. Your car is ready!
Uh ok this is the third time new bolt, washer, harmonic balancer, and belt.
Oh yeah the Vett tech says this time they used a adhesive as well. What!
There trying to fix my car with crazy glue!
( yeah I know not really but what the hell the thing is a friction
connection do the really think that a adhesive will help?)Better not
be JB weld! 400 ft. lbs of torque sure the adhesive will work. Just slot
the frigging thing and put a keyway and key in it. What a bunch of
bow hackers....Lets see what happens after I pick it up. A few choice
launches and its back to sqeaksville I bet

Stay Tuned.....and If you hear of a murder on Long Island at a corvette dealer

Mike
the diamond impregnated washer goes against the crank snout face before the damper goes back on to prevent the damper from spinning on the crank and causing the bolt to loosen

Default Just wondering

Does anyone know if these crank pulley failures have mostly happened under high rpm operation? Nobody has posted a report of a failure while cruising at 1700 rpm. Don't get me wrong, these cars are built to be driven hard and they should not be coming apart just because the driver chooses to wind it out once in a while.

Find a dealer who has a mechanic who knows what he's doing. It should be pretty obvious that after the 3rd try, these clowns don't.

You went 182 miles between your last two failures. That's just incredible! There's no way they could have done this properly. Hopefully they've finally got it figured out by now.

The thing that concerns me is that if it breaks loose with the diamond washer in there, you've probably ruined your crank! This has happened to a couple of other people after the fix and the crank snout gets damaged by the abrasive washer necessitating replacement of the engine.

Unless they've changed something, the only fix after it comes loose with the diamond washer in place is engine replacement because the crank is too damaged by the abrasive washer to try it again. Maybe that's why yours keeps coming loose: your crank is now damaged! Sounds like you've got yourself some real fine grease monkeys working on your car! Maybe it's time to find another dealer?

Best of luck...

Mike

Default Crank Pulley

I agree with Shopdog post 17. After this many fixes going bad they must be doing something wrong. There are very specific steps to follow in the GM fix and if the mechanic does not follow them to the letter problems will occur. I remember many moons ago someone posted the intire proceedure for the crank pulley fix in the Forum maybe if someone can lead you to that post you'll be able to question the mech. that did the work to see if he did it right. Good Luck
I can only imagine how depressing this would be if it happened to me.
