I'm a relative newcomer to the Corvette world, I just took delivery of my first Corvette last Friday (10JUN05) and it is a beauty. LeMans Blue Metallic, Z51 and 1SB package. Now onto the question....
Would a LS7 fit in a C6 and would the transmission handle the increased torque? I have an automatic just as a postscript.
Thanks in advance for your time and I'm glad to be a member!

actually the LS7 will "fit" just fine. as for the transmission, esp the '05 C6 A4... you're definitely probably going to need to upgrade the internals in short order.
that being said... why? the LS7 crate motors are NOT going to be cheap... i've heard $10k+. Maybe $15k? then you have to factor in the cost of the ECU reprogramming and all the other associated cost of an engine swap/replacement you'll need to make it work.
for that kinda cash you can rebuild your LS2 to be a monster that will perform better than a "stock" LS7. unless you just want 'bragging rights' to say you have an LS7 swapping one in really makes no sense.

JMHO.
With a head and cam package, headers and tuning you will easily be at the 500 hp range and could do all this for approx $8000. True it will never be a 427, however it will run like one.
Roger that! I was just wondering as there is so much press and anticipation with the LS7. Motor Trend had a good article covering the assembly and it piqued my interest.
It's definitley do-able. The stock tranny and differential may not last though. Depends on how you drive it. I imagine a differential would live longer behind an A4 than a MN6. And there are plenty of tranny builders who can build that A4 to survive 505 HP / 475 TQ.
And just how much would all of this cost you? More than the $20K price spread. It would make a lot more sense to buy the Z06.
The only car that makes sense for dropping in an LS7 would be a C5 - i.e. - pay low 20's for a nice low mileage 2000 model and drop in the "big motor".
Wouldnt work as a sleeper either since everybody knows any corvette may be packing some extra firepower. Now stick that thing in a new malibu and I bet that catches a few people by suprise.
