I got 6k out of my rear tires and my fronts didn't look like they would make it thru a second set of just replacing the rears.I complained to GM and they offered to pay for one rear tire, this was before I had my alighnment checked and found out it was way out.I tried to get Gm to pay for the second tire but since I had already agreed to accepting one rear the deal was done.I used the one rear tire they paid for as credit and replaced all the tires with Falken FK451 max performance tires and absolutly love them. They have a 280 tread rating and a set from Discount tire is 985 installed.
My advice would be to get an Alighnment( gm will have to reimberse you for that as long as your under 7500 miles) when you find out its out call GM customer service and complain, they should pay for both new rear tires. With the credit from the 2 rear supertires(you can work that out with your tire shop) you can buy a whole set of Falkens or for 500 more buy Michelin PS2's.The ride on non runflats is far superior.

My concern is going from the runflats to non. How does his effect the computer without the sensors? And what do I do to the system when I change to non runflats?

Falken Fk451's are available in stock sizes. The set runs 816.00 from Discount tires direct.I've put 600 miles on them and they are great.I've owned so2's and so3's and dunlop 9000's and these are way better in the rain and just as good in the dry.The sensors work the same, you don't remove them, I just carry a small 12volt compressor and monitor them daily. The ride is super smooth and makes the runflats ride seem rough.
GM never questioned why my rear tires wore out so quickly and after I found out my alighnment was out it made sense to me.I never do burn outs and just drove the car the way it was meant to be driven.

Was your tire worn down to the wear bands at 6000 miles, mine are? I want to be able to have a good thread life, because I like to take agressive turns and get some tire spin.

Mine were worn right to the wear bars and then some, had maybe 3/32's left on the fronts till I hit the wear bars.Your not gonna get much wheel spin with the Falkens they grip better than the supertires ( I live in the mountains of western NC with twisties everywhere )that come with the z51 package. The supertires have a 220 tread rating as do the michelin ps2's,the falkens are a 280 tread rating. They also give you a 30 drive trial so if you don't like them you can return them for full credit towards another brand. You really can't loose.

Are they run flats? If not, what do you do if you get a flat? Call a Flatbed?

I don't have run-flats on any of my other cars and haven'y changed a spare in 30years.I always just pump them up with my 12 volt compressor and drive to a gas station and get them fixed. Its easier to remove and patch non-runflats and almost all gas stations can do that.On the Vette you have pressure monitors,so you can check them as your driving to get them repaired.I'm personally not even slightly concerned the run-flats ride like crap compaired to these tires

In your photo the tread contact patch on the Falken tire looks narrow compared to the stock EMT Goodyear, especially on the rear. Is it just the lighting in the photo?

They're exactly the same width, just how my camera angle distorted the perspective.

The flatter sidewalls on the Goodyears probably contribute to the effect too.

Thanks for the info.

The Falken does have a rim guard protection feature ,the tire sidewall buldges out a little. http://www.vulcantire.com/451_t.htm

as long as your car is under warranty, you can call GM roadside assistance any time, day or night. they can come out and plug the tire right on the side of the raod, or if its a full blowout then can flatbed the car to the nearest tire shop. No Charge.

With GM Roadside, State Farm Roadside, and everyone elses - I STILL keep my AAA+/RV Coverage. I guess owning a Harley also makes it practical. Pays for itself in 1 tow a year. And it goes anywhere up to 100 miles, not the nearest service facility.

/end off topic rant

Back on topic - those Falken 451's look like a sweet tire. AA traction and a 280 treadwear? Wonder how NOISY they are?

Love to hear again from someone who's running these on a C6...
