I recently purchased a new C6. I have heard from many folks...change the oil after the first 1000 miles. Is it worth it? Or should I follow the DIC to tell me when the first oil change is due?
You'll get about 1/2 saying do it out of compulsiveness sake. You'll have 1/2 say go by the book, and go by the computer. It only costs more to do it now. Other than that it can't hurt.

I say Yes. If you do it yourself, low cost appox. $35.00.

My dealer told me it was a waste of money to change before the indicated time on the DIC, but I changed at 1,300 anyway ($60 at Bill Kelley Chevrolet). Intend to change again at 5,000 and every 5,000 thereafter. More frequent changes also allow the tech to eyeball the car overall, both in the engine compartment and underneath, which is not a bad idea.
My previous car, a Porsche 996, had a recommended interval of one year or 15K miles, whichever came first. It also required Mobil 1. I followed that routine (yearly--I never hit 15K miles in a single year)for the four years I had the car and never had a problem. The price for an oil change on the 996 was $143, but it held an extra 3 or 4 quarts and it WAS a Porsche....(Big Deal). You ought to see the price for an oil change on my friend's F355 Ferrari---HOO BOY! And he has to use ear wax from a Unicorn instead of Meguiars....
Doing mine tomorrow at 980 miles. Wife and I are then leaving on a 1200 mile trip, so I am playing it safe. Got the Mobile 1 at Walmart and the filter pf 46 at local chevy dealer. I think the total cost will be about $30-$40, so it seems worth it to me.

Ferrari oil changes should cost about the same as your Porsche. Tell your friend to look around if it's very much higher...
