Default Replacement speakers in a c6

Due to the differences in model years I am putting this here vs the audio section as it only pertains to the C6.

Has anyone here successfully mounted seperates? If so, where did you mount the tweeter? The stock 3.5" space, can it be opened up to 4" to get a more standard/higher end speaker to fit? Any hints on brands/models which fit? I have been out of the car audio world for a long, long time. Considering it seems to change every 15 minutes, and I haven't thought about it in over 10 years, I have no idea who is still good. I want a nice, neutral (ie flat) response and don't care about overhyped crap. I don't want excessive bass, or a midrange "bwahp" like the stock system, I just want to hear everything in my music and nothing that isn't.

What speakers in an 8" size can fit the "sub" mount area due to depth? Will the dynaudio 8/3/1 combo fit? Has anyone tried this kit in the c6?

I was thinking about just making new mounting plates with fiberglass for the speakers, if there is room. I am not good at doing glasswork, but then again it will be covered by the doors so I dont really care how it looks, only how it works!

The rear and center "fill" speakers will be disabled.

Have you looked at the C6 FAQ in the C6 General section? Here's a link.

stinky: that one is part of what prompted my asking. they state in there that 3.5, 4 and 4.5 inch mids fit, maybe, possibly, with the stock speakers being 3.5. Not a clear answer for someone like me who wants to do it himself.

I am guessing the internals were modified to allow a 4.5, but the posting does not describe how. If they spent 3500 dollars for a fabricator to rebuild the door internals, that is fine but unfortunately I cannot do that, only minor mods.

I also looked through the faq, and it only answers some basic sizing questions. It is not detailed enough to proceed with something better/different than stock sizing or decide on brands.

Also, in the past eclipse speakers were pretty much junk. Has this changed? Are they now up there with dynaudio and mb quart in quality?

Man am I with you regarding the rear and center "fills". I read that as "destroy stereo separation"! WTF are these car audio designers thinking? Might be OK if we're watching DVDs from the driver's seat, but, uh, we aren't.

Search the forum for "hoonose" and "speakers". As I recall, he likes Eclipse, which is a fine brand. Seems like I already responded to this thread today, but it was a different dude. Your concern seems to be relatively common. Friends don't let friends buy Bose. Regarding the possible disparagement on Eclipse, I've never known them to "suck". They make the woofers in my home speakers (Legacy Audio) and as far as I'm concerned are second to pretty much none.
