Default K&N CAI (long post)

I'm wondering if any of you guys have had any problems with the K&N CAI System on your LS2's. I don't have a Corvette but rather an '05 GTO with the LS2. Some of us who post on www.ls1gto.com have experienced driveability problems with our cars after installation. Basically this intermitten problem consists of stumble at idle, stalling and bogging on initial takeoff. This problem also seems to only exist when the A/C is on. I sent the following e-mail to K&N:

Subject: Very Disappointed and Frustrated

Sirs:

First off I would like to say I have always been a supporter/advocate of your products and have used your CAI systems on all vehicles I have owned and also use your Air Filter Kit on my '64 GTO Tri-Power.

With that said, I was very excited when K&N announced the availability of a CAI System for my new ride, a 2005 GTO, A4. I was very pleased with the clarity of the instructions and the ease of installation. This is where my satisfaction ends. I have had nothing but problems with the drivability of my car since installation. It surges, stalls and basically runs like crap. This problem, though intermittent, is very bothersome to the point of wanting to remove the system tomorrow and get my money back. I did not pay $250+ to have my car run like crap. I followed the instructions to a "t" and all clamps, screws and harnesses are tight and properly installed. The MAF is installed in the proper position (in reality it can only go on one way). I do not think it has anything to do with the actual installation.

The very weird thing is, it seems to only act up when the A/C is on and blowing at the #3 speed or at High speed. At least this is when it is most notable. At idle it surges or stalls and it bogs during take off. Very, very erratic behavior. Yesterday, Friday, (installed kit on Thursday evening) is when it first started to act up and was really running terrible. The "Check Alternator" message appeared on the instrument panel but disappeared after a shut down and restart and has not reappeared. I called Tech Support when I got home and they told me to disconnect the battery for a couple of hours to clear the computer. I did this and the problem still exists. I was backing out of my driveway today and it just flat out stalled. Later on in the day it began acting erratically again and then this time the Traction Control turned off and would not turn on. I had to shut it off, let it sit for 5 minutes or so and after a restart it now functions normally. I have had 14,000 trouble free miles with the car until I installed your kit.

I definitely think it is something electrical as the related issues (Drivability with A/C on, Check Alternator message and Traction Control) all have wiring stemming from the same wiring as the harness for the MAF. I am wondering if the MAF itself is possibly grounding to the metal heat shield. Who knows.

One thing is for sure: I am not the only person with a 2005 GTO having this issue. There are at least 3 or 4 of us that post on www.ls1gto.com that have posted the same symptoms. We are hoping K&N Engineering will step up to the plate and come up with a solution.

We'll see if this garners any response. Do any of you have any feedback?
