Default 6-Speed Paddle Shift automatic

Interesting link:
http://media.gm.com/us/chevrolet/en/...tte/index.html

The text states that the new tranny features, "clutch to clutch operation." Does this mean that it is a DSG type tranny (like the Audi cars) instead of a traditional slushbox with paddles (what I expected from chevy). If so, that should provide more fun than a bag of squirrels...

No, it is a regular automatic with a torque converter. What clutch to clutch shifting means is that the clutch pack for the next gear starts to engage before the clutch pack for the current gear fully releases. This increases shift smoothness dramatically. But it also increases wear on the clutch packs because the clutches are fighting each other until the shift completes, ie their associated planet gears are trying to drive the output shaft at two different speeds. In older trannies this would be unacceptable, but the new control electronics monitors tolerances as the clutches wear so closely that it can fully compensate and maintain smooth shifts right up to the point the clutches are completely shot.
