Default '06 ring time ? (not z06)

I have heard and read that they used an '06 to get a ring time for the c6 instead of using the '05. There have been comments about some 'performance' improvements that helped the '06 (non-z06) get a good time. I've tried to find out what type of enhancemenst have been made for model year '06 and the only thing it can find that might fall into that category would be the paddle shifter.

Does anyone know what model / setup they used to get the '06 (non-z06) ring time. Was it the 'paddle shifter' version. I'm just guessing, but I thinking that they used the 'paddle shifter' version since it would be closer to the f1 type of shifting that some of these 'pro' drivers use.

Everything else looks the same between '05 and '06 (save for the smaller wheel and the hidden xm). The weight, engine, hp/trq, tranny's (except the new paddle version), and gears. so what are the performance enhancements for '06 ?

Per Dave Hill at the Sonoma ALMS race--it was a 2006 C6 Z51. I'm the guy who talked to him about this. As stated in other Z06 threads--GM was leary of the new Prosche Cayman coming out and wanted to break 8 minutes at the Ring with a normal production Vette (as opposed to the Z06 models which are considered limited production) and so they worked, teaked and improved and finally got their wish with the 7' 59" lap time.

The car was an 2006 C 6 manual transmission Z51..so automatic paddle shifter was not involved. time was 7' 59"..

We are only talking about a few seconds (about 5-6 estimated as the 2005 C6 does not have an official Ring time per Dave Hill) on the most difficult road course in the world, 14 miles long, driven by a professional race driver who knows the Ring...on the street--99.999% of folks won't be able to tell the difference between the 05 and 06....

Dave didn't get into specific changes (citing media info blackout)...see mags this fall...just like the C5...there will be constant improvements within the C6 program....most, like the C5 are never listed in brochures...they fine tune springs, shocks, a little tweak of engine software etc.....I doubt you will ever get Hill and company to get say exactly what was done differently---but Z51 suspension tweaks are suspected. And..expect the 07 to 'improve' on the 06 and so on...
