Sorry, I'm new here.
I see that folks are getting tuned after doing mods. How is this done? With a hand held programmer? Coming from the 350Z world, you need an emanage or split second box to tune, or some other very expensive system.
Don't do this yourself. You won't get the same results Take it to a real tuner who can put it on his dyno. Make sure he has done C6 vettes as they act very different than the older models. You will see seat of the pants difference. It should last forever unless you experience some sort of problem in the computer (not from the tuning). They did 6 pulls on my C6 before they tweeked it in just right. A good tuner will make changes and tweek it for you.
Check out Halltech's web site it explains what they tune. There are instructions on the removal of your ECM which you mail to them. Jim the owner is a top notch honest guy who will send your ECM back within 24hrs of receipt. While your at it the best mod I have done is the halltech Stinger check it out as well.
but what are they tuning? Are they able to tweak the factory computer directly? That is my question.
Yes, ECM reflash is how they're tuning. However, the tools to do it, and the reverse engineering to know exactly what does what in the ECM firmware, are still rather primitive. They're still finding new functions, and re-interpreting what some of the data tables mean. But they can adjust timing and fuel maps now.
Get it tuned with someone who has a dyno.I got 24 rwhp on my tune with just intake and bullets.Another local guy who went to the same tuner got 25rwhp out of his tune with same mods as me and headers.A good tuner is important. I went to Brian at hallandale chevy in south florida. He did about 20 dyno runs on my car to get everything out of it.
I have not had any work here but they are a sponsor of the forum. I drove by the shop and noticed several c6's in the lot. They are near Woodstock. http://www.moderndaymusclecars.com/main.html
