I was at Carlisle today and wanted something from my vert's trunk. The membrane covered button would not work, nor would the trunk release inside the car. I used the fob - no good either. I didn't have the key with me and kept trying everything over and over. Finally, thinking something was in the way somehow - I pushed the button for the auto-top. The top went up and I tried the trunk release again and this time it worked! Nothing in the trunk was in the way, so I don't know what happened - Anybody know what happened?
Hummm. I don't have a power top, but with the manual top, if the tonneau cover is not latched shut, the trunk will not open. In other words, the tonneau cover and trunk can not be opened at the same time.
Try putting the top down again and see if the trunk will open. If not, push down on the tonneau cover (make sure it latches) and try the trunk again. If that works, your tonneau cover needs adjusting.

Sounds like the cover was not closed all the way. If you put your top UP and the car beeps, it's actually not done closing for a few more secs, you can see it get pulled down 1/4 inch.
If the tonneau cover is not fully latched (both sides), the trunk release will be disabled. If it happens again, release the tonneau & re-close with pressure form both driver & passenger side.
