Default Another NAV question

Still trying to learn my way around the NAV system, I have a few waypoints set and my HOME set. Well, I noticed that if I ever go to the NAV screen to show someone or whatever, the NAV chick will start giving me directions once I start driving, even if I'm out of the NAV screen. Obviously I have something selected which makes it think I'm needing directions when I dont. How do I erase any previous destinations or waypoints so she will stop talking to me just because I went to the NAV screen to view it?

It appears you still have an active route, you more than likely selected a destination or waypoint and had the system route to it. However, you probably did not complete the route so every time you get in the system wants to send you to that destination. To make a long story short you need to Cancel Guidance on the Route Options screen. (See Nav Manual pg 2-35)

Probably so. This is one of my beefs with the system. It is not intuitive at all to cancel guidance. I tried to do it one day while driving, an finally gave up. I would think that if you are in the guidance mode, getting out of it would be the most basic thing you could do. It's not!

Oh, and BTW, I still think it's amazing how hard it is to learn to turn the Nav system off while you are driving. I have studied the instructions and cannot find anywhere how to turn nav completely off. As best as I can figure, you have to have the radio on to turn the system off. Even then, it's not at all intuitive. Have I missed something?
