replace just the cats ?
anyone have any results of the type of performance gains would would pickup by just replacing the cats with some high flow cats (random tech.).
i've read a bunch of folks have picked up some good numbers when they add header but that also includes replacing the stock cats.
can anyone prove that the stock exhaust manifolds on the c6 won't flow well enough for 500hp. what if one was to replace just the cats to compliment his catback system.
if the gains were good enough it would seem that this would be a more cost effective method to pick up some power. not to mention a less labor intensive mod.

Stock cats flow pretty well. The best numbers I've seen for just cats fall in the 3 to 5 hp range. Not enough to be environmentally insensitive IMHO.
when i called random tech. about this very question last month they said it was good for 8-10 hp on there own. this was the direct replacements high flow cats for the stock manifolds. they also work with shorty headers.
we know intake, catback, long tube w/ cats, and a tune are good for around 435-440hp.
wonder what that could be with same mods - the headers, but with high flow direct replacement cats. anybody??
