This subject has been beat to death many times, but for those interested, I put two C6 rims with BF Goodrich drags on today with NO sensors (fronts still installed) and got NO warnings. I put about 25 miles on at speeds up to 100mph and nothing. I checked the DIC for PSI and they all showed 26 at first, and after about 15 miles the fronts showed 27 and 28 (which was incorrect), and the rears 26 (must default to 26 with no signal). When I returned home I changed back to stock with sensors, and they all showed 30psi when I drove again. I have seen so many speculation coments on this, I thought I would post an actual test. I hope it helps others!
I put 4 new BFG KDW2s on today with new tire pressure sensors that haven't been registered with the TPM. I drove the car for 20 miles and got no warnings or lights. I stopped the car after 10 miles then restarted it to see if that made a diff; it didn't. For some reason I didn't check tire pressure while I was driving.
I think somebody indicated they didn't see any warnings until they have driven 50 miles outside the range of the original(registered) TPS. I should be able to do the 50+ miles on Thursday. The car is sitting in the garage now next to the original TPS.
I have one of the Bartec tools. My plan was to drive the car until I got some warning then register the new TPS with the TPM.

At times I've done 100 miles with no warnings, and at other times I have had the warning come on after only 60 miles. When I get the warning on the DIC I am able to hit the reset button for the DIC and everthing goes away until I shut off the car and restart. Hit reset and it is good to go..Competition mode AH TC off whatever I want to do...No problem for me.
Yes, great info. I was concerned my setup may give me trouble, but so far so good. I am only using my extra rims and drags for 1/4 mile runs 2 or 3 times a year, so if I get a warning and can just reset, that will be fine also.

I spent over $400.00 to get around this supposed problem. I bought new sensors and the Bartec tool (thanks goes out to Bartec or it would have been $500.00 for the GM tool). I hope I was not wrong listening to the people on this board. I would much rather have the $400.00 in my pocket.....or in brakes or race rubber! I could not (or would not) chance not being able to turn off T/C and A/H at the track. I go this weekend and I can't wait
Redhot, good luck at the track! To all, I changed my stock setup back to the two rears with no sensors again and during the day drove 105.3 miles. Still no warnings, and DIC still showing 26psi without sensors. I was able to turn AH and TC completely off and on, no problems. My C6 was built 10/04 vin 5566.

I am also $400 into this problem/issue and wondering why others have reported problems with TPM and active handling that we aren't seeing?
I drove my car 20 miles again today with the KDWs and checked the tire pressure on the DIC, all four were shown to be 28PSI which is what the wheels back in my garage are.

I think I found out today that you have to do around 70 miles without shutting the car down to get the warning....If you shut the car off it seems restarts the mileage it takes to get the sensor warning. Like I said earlier, even when I do get the sensor warning all I have to do is hit reset and I can go into AH TC off Comp mode whatever...no problems.

Wish I had tried one event without sensors before I spent the money.
Just to confirm what we already seem to know, I drove 90 miles (45 each way) today without any warnings. The car sat for 4 hours before my return trip.

So who sold us this bill of goods about having to have sensors in your track wheels and a tool to program them? I never got this bad of info on the Lightning boards. I feel like a fool. I assumed the guys posting here knew what they were talking about. The only reason I went ahead and did it was because I did not want to end up at the track without being able to turn off T/C and A/H.

Seems that some members cars respond differently than ours have, or they are full of it. I am not sure which, all I can honestly report is that which I have personally experienced. There had been some talk that earlier build dates responded in a negative way to no sensors, I would like to get that confirmed or debunked. What is your build date/VIN
Mine is
04/05 - 23922
No problems without sensors..I get a warning message on the DIC... I hit reset and all is good. TC AH off/competition mode whatever. I just completed a 800 mile trip that way, most of it at 85 mph or so....
I went ahead and registered my new TPS with the TPM without testing to see if I could turn on comp mode with no registered sensors. So based upon posts above, people have been able to switched to comp mode with no sensors, is that correct??

I just got a Bartec tool and it worked great. Put the car in ACC mode and held a transmitter lock and unlock button at the same time until the horn beeped. Went to each wheel and held the bartec tool at the stem and pressed the button. The horn beeped and light flashed when it was complete. I then moved to the next wheel and repeated with the hand held. All four wheels done in less that 2 minutes. Forum price is $200 at Bartec.
