hurst shifter question
I recently installed a hurst shifter (the c5 version) in my c6. Very nice and a big thanks to Lager for the detailed directions from his install. I did, however, find some slight differences in the process but all in all his directions provided a good roadmap.
First, let me say, the shifter is excellent and a huge improvement over the stock unit. The only issue I currently have with the hurst is the stiffness. The shifts are nice and positive but the left to right movement isn't as free as the stock unit. I switched the 'springs' to the lighter ones but it's still a little stiff. I like a 'loose' shifter, one that can be controlled with just wrist action. Instead of using two springs per side can I use just one ? or will it loosen up with time ?

It will loosen up with time but, not alot. That is what you want , it allow you to nail the 2-3 shift perfectly because the springs help to force it into the proper position for third...Now just get the Team Voodoo **** and you will shift like magic....

thanks, yes it is allowing for really nice shifts. the only problem I had was fifth to sixth (hit fourth twice instead - oops), and finding first has been a little iffy, but it's getting better. Guess it's just getting used to the shifter. All-in-all it has made shifts much smoother and quicker. I just a tad hesitent to try my sixth to fourth downshift but I'm sure once I get the hang of this shifter it won't be a problem. btw: I picked up a Kirba shift **** with 6 speed pattern.
A couple of forum members have taken the springs out completly. Me? I sold it and went B&M. The bushings that they include in the kit make a big difference (especially since mine were shot after 3K).

when what how did the vibration appear ? I've haven't seen / felt any abnormal vibration from mine. I just ran it up to 122 mph and didn't notice anything from the shifter. Would downshifting into fourth from sixth @ 78 mph then flooring it be sufficient load to cause the vibration ?
2nd & 3rd gear ... usually when I'm giving it everything it's got. Around town it's awesome but since I leave early am and my drive to work is open highway I hit it hard. It's a bummer since I love the tight, short shifts.
Maybe it's my install but I followed a few posts here flawlessly. The only thing I did not do is create/buy & install an extra rubber plug. Maybe that's it ...
