Default Elite Alum Pedals - Installation Problem

I installed the Elite gas pedal and dead pedal today. Experienced a small problem that some of you may encounter.

Getting the stock gas pedal pin out was a problem but I eventually got that accomplished with a C clamp. But I encountered another small problem that I don't believe has been mentioned by anyone.

I installed the gas pedal per instructions with the help of all of the wonderful installation photos on the Elite website. No problem at all in doing the installation.

But, the gas pedal had a lot of side-to-side play, much too much! The instructions mention that you should: "be sure the tension spring falls into the groove machined in the shoulder bolt". But there was no way that the spring could fall into the groove because the thickness of the stock gas pedal lever was such that the spring could not fall into the groove. I did a measurement and discovered that the shoulder bolt groove had to be 1/16" further to the right in order for the spring to fall into the groove. Not much, but it is the difference between a bad or a good installation.

I came up with a quick fix by using a metal file to take off about 1/16" from the inner side of the Elite pedal where the shoulder bolt comes through. That enabled the gas pedal lever to move slightly more to the left as the pedal was installed, and the tension spring fell nicely into place. There was no more side-to-side movement. I can only assume that the thickness of the C6 gas pedal lever may in some cases vary slightly and prevent the Elite pedal from seating properly.

The Elite pedal setup looks great and I am happy with the result. Just be aware that you could encounter a similar problem. It is a simple fix once you figure out what is wrong.

I have done 5 installs (not one time did I need to break off the stock pedal) of these pedals and all fell right in the grove in the pin. You should let Jeff from elite know, but it sounds like you found a quick soultion.

Mine went right into the groove, but a month post-install, I'm having a problem with the spring/pedal "squeeking". I'm not sure if this is the pivot point that is making the noise in the hole (as the stock pedal's pin is pressed in tight, and the pedal pivots on the pin itself), or the spring end is rubbing against the pedal, or if the spring itself is just squeeking.

Like a loud exhaust, the "temporary fix" is just to turn the stereo up...
