But for just an otherwise stock vette? The bulletin fixes the problem. If you have a dealer that won't do the bulletin because your's hasn't failed yet - pay them to do it. Then send the bill to GM.
If your willing to pay a couple hundred bucks for an aftermarket fix, pay for the factory fix and make them look ridiculous for not doing it in the first place. The rep sees where you paid the dealer to complete a bulletin, I'd like to hear how they are going to explain not reimbursing you.
Advantage to the factory fix - warranty. Not a concern on a supercharged piece, cause their warranty is out the window anyway.
But on a stocker, what if Murphies law bites you and something breaks.
Dealer sees you've been in there drilling and pinning, just gives them an excuse to blame the aftermarket mod.
I've even seen people sell their vettes because "someday the balancer might fall off." Get a grip. Find a way to make the dealer do the bulletin. Whether it's two hands to the head, or a couple hundred bucks, do the bulletin and problem solved.
GM will not touch my motor. The warrantee is for all that electrical junk in there. I'll rebuild it myself... I can do better and I have an excuse for go fast goodies
I tried to buy the tech bulletin parts and the dealer told me, "no way".

I trust getting the crank pinned by a certified Vette tuner fanatic more thanI trust the hacks at GM dealerships and their band-aid diamond washer fix.I had my dealer put on my headers and besides charging me 700.00 they broke my fuel rail cover. When I questioned them about it they said "Ain't no big deal they break real easy we got a replacement coming".

Headers are cake. I got a lift on the base...anybody wants them installed bring a coupla bucks and the beer. Same goes for heads, cams, blowers... everything but gears.

2 thoughts.
I think pinning the crank might just void alot of your warranty. After all there's bound to be 100,000 mile warranty on this crank fiasco anyway.
2nd, why not fray the edge of your serpentine belt with a coarse file or rasp and take it in. I wonder what's causing that?.......Hmmmmm....
Seems like its a more common problem than we all think.Happened on c5's also.Check out this post http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...650&forum_id=1
Scroll down , one guy had it happen on a completley stock car at 52k miles. Everyone seems to feel pinning is the best fix.

Exactly, start drilling into your crank and balancer - say goodbye to warranty covering anything related to what you touched.
On a stocker, find a way to get the dealer to do the bulletin. Not trying to buy the parts, but have the dealer do the complete bulletin. Whether you have to lie, cheat, steal, bribe, trash the belt ... The complete bulletin with a properly fitted, installed, diamond washered balancer... will fix it.
Now if your going to add the tremendous belt load of a supercharger, yeah 2 pins is the way to go. Ideally after completing the bulletin to at least start with a properly fitted and secured piece.
They only put a new balancer/pulley on if you have a breakdown. The reason is because once the pulley spins on the crank its no longer a press fit its been enlarged (not to mention it could pe permanently damaged if you let it run too long in that condition),so part of the fix is a new balancer (with a slightly smaller hole) still a press fit and the DEW to keep the bolt from coming off.If they would fix it before it messed up they would only have to use the DEW washer, but short of screwing up the belt(and I'm not sure that would work since they will probably just replace the belt when they see the pulley is still on and tight).Still not as solid as pinning, just easier on the GM techs.
