You guys with MN6
I have 459 miles in my baby and the mileage is lousy. The EPA stickers report the same mileage as the LS1 but to date no joy. You guys experiencing the same phenomena or am I stuck with a bum motor? What are your recommendations? Thanx Rad

I don't want to get into the Torque management thing again, I think most know my position on it, also been warned. The reason I asked those two questions is that mine was a dog at first then started to come alive with miles. Even the gas mileage sucked. I bought it in the Midwest and drove it home 2300 miles. The first 1000 I barely got 20 miles to the gallon. By the time I got home I was up to 26 now over 30. What this is leading up to is that the car was a dog till I hit 3000 miles and now it's a rocket. I've never realized the bog that people complain about but when you look at their mileage most are fewer than 2K. I didn't realize the bog because I was on highway miles and steady. When I got home I can actually get sideways in second and a break loose in 3rd with no bog at all and now I have 23K plus and an LS2 edit and the car is scary. (No so called torque management removal, just mix and timing)
The tire pressure question is that I had a minor mishap last summer where I broke a tire pressure sensor and dic showed flat tire. Car would not let me drive hard and would actually kill the throttle. Of course it would not let one set the handling at all, always full on.
8500 miles on a Z-51 MN6 and I normally get between 20-21 MPG back and forth to work in Dallas traffic. Took a road trip a few weeks ago and it was over 28. The quicker you can get into 5th or 6th the better the milage. To get good milage you have to drive like your trying to save fuel, otherwise you will be in the low to mid teens.

30% freeway, 70% city....20,200 odometer miles
Typically average 19.8 mpg, if focus on using 6th gear over 70 mph will average 20.5 mpg. On 350 mile 50% flat land and 50% mountain trips (Oakland Ca to Reno nev and return) will average 24 mpg (average speed around 70 which means occassional 90+ )

Noticed at some point ( think after 10k miles) vette seemed to suddenly be quicker and with even more miles seems to be even better.
It also seems to have also gotten a little lower as now scrapes where it didn't before.

I averaged about 19 MPG overall with my 6-spd C6 that I had for 3 months & 1900 miles.
My auto tranny C6 started out averaging about 20 MPG, but now, with 6800 miles on it, I am averaging slightly over 21 MPG overall, with approximately the same kind of driving.

Rads,
Same results here. My 02 Z06s, got between 22-23 and now I am getting about 16mpg with the same type of driving. However, like you I have less that 500 miles.
Not that I *care* too much, but it is an interesting topic.

Those EPA rating are NOT actual numbers. Read the fine print ... they are certification "levels" for the similarly equiped motors under test conditions. I do believe their should be a clause printed on all window stickers that says somethign to the effect "actual mileage will vary."

What have you observed for MPG to date?
MN6 Z51 Worst I can remember was 12.5.
Usually around town is 14-16. Best was 29 no AC on a trip to Somerset, PA from DC. Usual trip MPG is 27-28.

I got 25.5 mpg on the 120 mile trip home from the dealer. The next tank of almost all around town spirited driving I got 15.0 mpg. My old CTS-V was about the same. Seems the cars run super rich 12.0-13.0 AFR when one drives hard and this is a mileage killer... Tuning would certainly help .
I've got 2000 miles now, gas milage and power seem to be getting better. I think it takes a long time to really break in, say around 10,000 miles. I'm willing to hazard a guess that this is probably due to the use of synthetic oil.
Many, many years ago, when synthetic oil was new, some friends of mine build a new engine for a formula Vee they were running and filled it with Mobile One. Didn't run worth a darn. They tore it down and found no sign of break in at all. They reassembled the engine, filled it with dino-based oil, ran it a bit, then changed to synthetic and it worked fine.
Breaking in involves many processes, some are not wear-related, but some are (like rings mating to cylinder walls).

I don't know how they got their EPA numbers but I can tell you from experience the LS2 doesn't do as well as the LS1 on gas mileage. My 99 C5 MN6 got about 2 MPG better on both city and highway than my 05 C6 MN6. Just a fact of life. More cubic inches + basically the same engine technology = worse gas mileage.
