Default A6 exhaust woes

I had the RT HF cats and the BB 66's installed two day ago. The A6 lives in the 1500 RPM zone in normal driving. That's right where the drone of the 66's is. I could keep out of that zone with the go pedal or the paddles, but with gas prices, I can't do that all the time.

At first we thought it was the cat's. Put in the OEM's and it was slightly reduced, but still intolerable (for me).

Today I had the stock exhaust put back on. What a relief. They don't look as good as the 66's, but they'll stay on until I eventually get LG LT's and a Corsa Sports, maybe next year. I'm sure the 66's are great for a MN6 or an A4. They're for sale in the C6 Parts section. $500 if you can pick 'em up.

Ain't learning the hard way sucky?
Did you listen to the different exhausts before you made the plunge? I know that always isn't possible...
I have the Corsa Sports and love 'em. Seems to be just right(for me, of course). But overall, I think you will like them. Good Luck.

I've heard clips of both, some mentioned "slight drone" on the 66's, but I didn't figure the A6 would be that different. I've had modified exhausts on all my previous cars and have never experienced a drone like that. Okay, on my old '94 Z28 I put a straight pipe on, that might have been worse.

The 66's drove me nuts with drone on my C5 A4 in the 1500 RPM range.
That broke me of ever considering changing an exhaust system again.

I'm waiting to see a post about the A6 combined with the GM performance exhaust. Might be a nice drone-free combination...

So I take it that we've determined that the 2005 cat back systems DO in fact fit around the new A6 transmission on 2006s without modification?

Default drone

they all drone at 1500RPMs. Even my magnaflows make a little noise at 1500rpms. Mine's a 6speed Z-51. Although it's very quite at 65-70mph
on up tp what ever.

Mine has the drone at 1500 too, so I just keep the rpms up above that. Luckily (unluckily?), I don't get to drive the car enough to worry about mileage.

Tommy,

I'm sorry to hear you're experience wasn't so good. 3car5 had the same problem with the Route 66s; he added the X-pipe and says it is much better now. I am also experiencing some drone with the Borla's; in fact, I'm thinking of trying the X pipe, or even switching to the non-aggressive system.

Btw, what did you think of the RTs? Did they add any power? Did the volume change with / without them? Why not put them back on now that the stock system is on again?

I have a BB x-pipe also. Since it wasn't broken in, I couldn't really tell much about the RT's from the way I was driving. It was definitely louder with them. I didn't want to make the installer put 'em back on. He already had worked about four hours for free.
