Shifting/3rd Gear ??? - HELP!!! Please.....

All of these work to some degree, but alot of times it just won't go into first and I just start out in 2nd, lest the yahoo behind me nails me in the rear...

There's a little side to side adjustment on the shifter carrier as well as fore and aft. I know about the synchro problem, but the first install attempt was prefect, but I had a real bad rattle issue. The second install using the neutral pin got rid of the rattle, but it takes a strong pull to the left to get it in to 2nd as well as 2nd has become notchy so I have a bit too much fore adjustment as well as side.
