Default FAST Intake installed

Just got her back from 21st CMC... Patrick, Andy, and John did TOP NOTCH work as always, it was worth 11 rwhp and 6 rwtq...Doesn't sound like much, however the car pulls VERY strong all the way to redline... BIG s.o.t.p. difference on the road and this is with a car that already had 399.1rwhp... I'm impressed to say the least...

Yes Sir... Either A&A supercharger or the ECS s.c. kit... Sure wish these systems were ready for purchase. I'm trying VERY hard not to buy the ATI kit before weighing these options...

actually, nice numbers.

what did it take to get the FAST to fit. Did you mod the firewall or grind down one of the runners ? how thick is the runner, how much needs to be removed, or is this a 'new' ls2 c6 design ?

A small notch is required in the upper firewall. LPE makes a piece that they put in with the manifold. Once it is in it looks like it was built that way

aaarrrrr.. i'm not too clap happy about modding the firewall, just something about cutting the car to make the part fit. I'd much rather find a way to mod the part and keep the car the way it was. parts are easier to replace than cuts in the car. if i modded the firewall then later found another intake i liked better and fit different i would end up with a 'notch' in the car... hhhmmm

I am going to take lots of pics when I get the 403 installed. I will post but having seen the mod unless your were an expert it looks OEM when it is done and I have seen the notch with a stock motor and it looks like it is supposed to be there.

I agree the notch gave me more pause than any other mod I have done.

I went up and checked out Mr. Big's car yesterday at 21st Century. I don't think there's any way to avoid cutting the firewall if you want this intake (so, your other choices would be not getting it or waiting and hoping the makers come out w/a different one ). If you look at the stock setup, there's a few inches between the back of the manifold and the firewall. Note when I say firewall, I'm not talking one layer that behind which is the interior of the car. This instead is the first layer that's between the engine and the wiper motor.

If you look at the FAST once installed, it's a considerable difference in terms of the depth it extends toward the firewall. Other folks have reported cutting away the firewall and re-glassing it. On Mr. Big's car, LPE provided a kit with a premolded piece, so the firewall was cut and the premolded piece was put in its place. Between the premolding, the match in color, the pushpins or whatever was used to hold it in place, and the depth that the FAST intake extends toward the firewall, you'd never notice it there.

The kit also had various other parts as Andy at 21st described to me , but he had already installed them so I'm just relaying some of the info he explained to me. When you cut the firewall in the needed location, behind it is the wiper motor. So, the kit includes a piece to provide replacement stability to the motor in place of where there previously was firewall (and a tiny screw, which you can see on the stock setup just behind the intake and on the firewall). Evidently the screw that's replaced and the piece that LPE provides to replace it are secondary in its function, as there is a bolt and a frame that both hold the wiper motor in place even without these extra pieces.

does the intake runner sit in the notch or is the notch needed to get the intake to drop down into place ? is it possible to grind down the top side of the rear runner enough to make it slip in ? that would be tricky thoug, don't wanna go too deep, don't wanna mess up the flow or change it so much as to permit temp changes in the runner.

This is a wild hair guess, but I think to grind down the intake, you'd have lovely improved air flow because that sucker would be open to ambient!

The intake runner most definitely sits in the area where firewall once was. With the LPE part in place, I'd say there was a little more than a finger thickness of room left between the rearward runner and the firewall.

Midnite and Steve summed it up VERY well... You DO NOT want to take ANY material off of the intake as this one is thinner walled than the stock piece...(no meat there) The LPE "kit" is pretty damn nice as far as ease of installation the only other part(s) needed are different injector "O" rings...
As stated before the gains don't look like alot on paper...However the way it pulls and doesn't stop pulling is Incredible!!! I'm a Viper guy in two past lives (both supercharged) and a 750rwhp Supra, so when i'm impressed by this, I promise, MOST would be...
The car currently has: L.P.E. intake, Dynatech Headers, Borla Stingers, Blower cam, FAST Intake, LS2 Edit, 4.10's... 406.2 h.p. All work done by 21st Century Muscle Cars
(soon to come supercharger... come on A&A and ECS!!!)

What was the total cost including install... I'm considering this next... I'm guessing $1200-1500
